Snowing in Livingston.
It was quite icy on the station platform this morning - definitely a day to take the road, not the cycle path.

Just popped out to put something in our wheelie bin and discovered the lid frozen shut. Watch out for ice if you are out tonight or in the morning.

Any updates on ice this morning gratefully received.

Edinburgh section of A71 not gritted and the road was dry this morning but with lots of frozen solid puddles along the side of the road. The West Lothian section of A71 was gritted because the surface was moist but also no frozen puddles. Quite a lot of frost on roads in WL in places where cars don't go.

Any updates
Outside bad, stay insidePosted 2 years ago # -
Thanks. Guess we’ll be busing today. Unavoidable travel. :(

It isn't so bad, in the city at least. The occasional frozen puddle here and there but mostly the roads are completely dry and fine to cycle on.
2 journeys so far today, one at 0700 to the Commonwealth Pool and from there to KB at 0835

Reports of ice on Strava activities this morning (Friday).

Yeah - lots of skitey pavements in Gilmerton this morning.

I planned to drive this morning and glad I did. A71 wet until Wilkieston, after that a bit slushy until Kirknewton, after that snow and then snow and ice! Livingston was terrible. Haven't seen so much ice on roads here before.
Luckily everyone was going very slow. Scary.

The road (not pavement) where Polwarth terrace meets Polwarth Grove was still icy well after mid-day. Some visible, some black.

Pavements being gritted tonight.

I can report that the Lanark Road cycle lane had been gritted when I came down it last night.
This morning I set off to cycle to Livingston but decided that it was a bad idea because I wasn't sure what the situation in Livi would be, so I went home and swapped to the Brompton and the bike-train-bike commute. I was glad I did because when I got to Livingston the roads were very frosty and just cycling from the station was bad enough.
Have West Lothian Council reduced their gritting to save money? Every time it has frozen this year I've had issues somewhere in Livingston.

It's one of those weird days, with temps well above zero and a breeze but lots of ice
Posted 2 years ago # -
It was well below zero last night, so I suppose it will take a while before any ice thaws.

I received a report in the morning that the pavements in Currie were bad. I didn't fancy taking A71 to Livi (it's really busy these days) so I decided to chance it on A70 via Balerno and Kirknewton. I was being very careful but I think the roads were mostly just wet. Pavements had plenty of frost and/or black ice. From the airfield turnoff (aka West Lothian border) the roads were definitely wet because I could hear it.
One of those days that I keep starting at the road and try to tell whether it's liquid or solid water.

The Leyland Cypress in our back green came down this morning and is blocking the side street. I went down with a saw to clear a path so downstairs neighbours could get out...
Be careful out there!

Garden fence blown down; food recycling bin lost, presumably in Oz.

Went through wooplaw community woodland today. Devastated. Lots of the trees are gone. Power lines still down after Arwen. Today has brought down a few more trees. Very sad as that is a woodland enjoyed by so many people.
I went for a run last weekend up the hills behind Fountainhall / Watherston and spent half of it doing an Indiana jones impression trying to find a way through all the fallen trees. The usual path through the forest was mostly buried. Still power lines down up there too.

There was a tree down somewhere on the WoL path - Currie area I think - below Blinkbonny Road as I turned off there. I got past it without issue with my MTB but you might want to be aware that it is there. I expect they'll get to it fairly quickly.

Met Office is forecasting 45mph gusts tomorrow, much the same as it was for last night and for Saturday. But no severe weather warnings. Go figure...

It's very blowy here today. Yesterday I went off piste at the top of the Cleish climb. The forest roads were blocked by a number of recently fallen trees. Once I was in the forest there were even more trees lying across the fire breaks. It was mostly only single trees though so fairly easy to pass.

Went out for a walk just now - sunny but snow seen on the Moorfoots. Come back in, sky dark, then snowing here in Dalkeith. Decided not to go for an evening cycle ride.
