Not even shovels, a strange board and hand process.

    The result is pretty

    But perhaps a bit much??

This was about 1 yesterday, presume icy the day before too?

The boards appear to be shovels, to be fair.

    I use a flower pot.

    Ah yes, missed the handle!

Not sure what the other guy is using, his shovel is on the lorry.

    Just his hands, it seems.

TAKE CARE FOLKS: We are currently seeing surface temperatures of -11 Deg C and where snow/ice has already formed the salt needs to work 4 times as hard, and really needs vehicle/pedestrian traffic to activate it.

Pavements are treacherous in Gilmerton, even on Gilmerton Road. Seems to have been just enough rain to wash away the grit and salt and then freeze over.

    Take care.

Watch out for patchy icy stretches on untreated surfaces. Strange in 6 degrees but I have fallen off on this type of ice before.

I spotted one of them this morning. No obvious reason why but I guess it's a combination of still frozen ground and clear skies.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in central and south west Scotland later this week, with the area of concern including Edinburgh.

The warning covers from 3am until 6pm on Friday, with heavy rain expected to bring some flooding and travel disruption. People are being encouraged to protect their property from flooding and call floodline on 0345 988 1188 if they need assistance.

Went along to Roseburn Park for a look around 1pm today, river level as high as I've seen it. Cycle path flooded to about a foot deep in the dip between the bridges north of Baird Drive, and spilling over the bank through the chainlink fence just west of the Changing Rooms.

Anyone know if we can we get from Russell Rd to the Ice rink without getting wet feet? Or if we had better stick to the roads?

Edinburgh and the Lothians are set to be battered with “very strong winds” next week as the Met Office releases a warning of “danger to life”. A yellow weather warning has been put in place for Scotland from 8pm on Tuesday (January 31) to 9am on Wednesday (February 1).

There is a lag on the effect from a SSW on the underlying troposphere however, where our weather takes place. Probably not until late February or in March. Even so, it does not guarantee winter weather at our latitude. In February 2018, a powerful SSW took place.

The consequence of this SSW was eventually felt, with the infamously known 'Beast from the East'.

However the SSW about to occur does not guarantee cold spells; warm spells are also possible. But it certainly makes our weather maps interesting in the coming weeks!

All information points to the possibility of the Beast from the East reemerging in the UK very soon. The Met Office has recently published its long-range weather forecast which might have just revealed that its arrival could be between February 28 and March 14.

I happened to be strolling across the bridge over the WoL at Longstone yesterday and was struck by how swollen the river was: very brown, flowing fast and on the verge of engulfing the wee island in the middle opposite the visitor centre. I don't recall it raining particularly hard recently, even during the Storm Otto remnants overnight Friday-Saturday. Is my memory failing even quicker than I feared, or is something else going up upstream to cause it?

A snow storm is expected to hit the Capital in around 10 days’ time. According to long-range weather forecasts, snow and cold temperatures will hit Scotland late next week. Heavy snowfall is forecast for Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. The wintry weather will affect areas on the eastern coast of the UK, including Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Wendy Wilson the sweary forecaster often removed from Facebook due to algorithms declares any snow forecast over three days in advance is keech.

This beast has been forecast for the last three weeks but has yet to materialize

Though an easterly is set for next Tuesday, of stiff Beauforts. I may consider letting it blow me to Ayr though the bakery in Douglas might only open Wednesday to Sunday?

Hoping it amounts to not too much. Supposed to be doing the Tour of the Ochils 200 a week on Saturday :) Not being a die hard "I'll ride in anything" if there's snow or ice I'll be staying at home.

With Friday the 5th either not being March or not being this year could this possibly be a rehashing of the regular winter "There be snow and doom coming" article so favoured by journalists at this time of year?
