Note the “could”. My prediction is it won’t - well not today at least (bit like yesterday).

    Would like a nice thunderstorm.

The Capital could see flooding this week as thunderstorms and heavy rain are set to hit the area.

Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge said 43mm of rain fell in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, which is almost half of August’s average rainfall.

He added that Great Western Railway had warned passengers not to travel between Exeter and Penzance due to the number of trees which had fallen on the tracks, and a number of roads had also been blocked in Devon and Cornwall.

More than half a month’s rain could fall across the south of England on Friday, which could lead to homes and businesses being flooded, the Met Office has warned.

Just been blown off a demo cargo bike entering Valleyfield Street. My own fault for not having rain cover sides up. Mixture of disc brakes and slippy surface.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice which is in place for 12 hours from 9pm on Sunday, October 22. It comes as temperatures are set to drop to around 5 degrees, with winds making it feel like 3 degrees at around 7am on Monday.

I was away last week but I think there was at least one morning with a decent frost, as the courgettes and cucumbers have been totalled :(

Didn't see any ice, but at least half of a beach was applied to MMW. Jeezo, they're going to kill anything living in the Meadows with that amount of salt, if they keep that up...

Probably better on the Portobello thread but this is a semi relevant one and currently active.

Watch out on the promenade, last weekends storm and onshore winds have deposited piles of sand several cm deep across the width of the promenade between where caravans were and bath street (at least, I turn off here),, which would be interesting to hit at even moderate speed. Hopefully council drive a tractor up it in the next day or two to remove.

    From January this year.

Perth and Kinross' provost has suggested reinstating a canal in Perth City Centre.

Provost Xander McDade is inspired by Utrecht which recently ripped up a motorway to reconnect a historic section of the Dutch city's canal.

But the Perth and Kinross councillor insists he is not proposing pulling up tarmac and tearing down Canal Street's multi-storey car park any time soon and sees it as more of a "long-term" aspiration.

Provost Xander McDade believes there is a conversation to be had about how best to regenerate Perth City Centre.

Despite the name a large number of locals are unaware Perth's Canal Street was once in fact a canal. A section of Perth Lade ran along Canal Street, Canal Crescent and South Methven Street from the mills to the Tay.

Or maybe this should this go in the Climate Change thread.

Or maybe there should be a ‘not maintaining what you already have before building new stuff’ thread…

    All stanks full of leaves

Big river down curriehill drive before the huge puddle and then the segregated route from Bankhead to Corstorphine had many smaller pools.

A cold snap is hitting Scotland and weather forecasters are warning that temperatures will drop to an icy -2C overnight leading to frost and snow showers as early as Wednesday.

Is it snowy/icy out there this morning? What little I can see from my flat in city centre is surprisingly benign...

It is cold. There are icy patches but it was OK in Musselburgh and Livingston (note that I kept off the cycle paths in Livingston).

Couple of inches of slightly slushy snow in Gilmerton this morning.

From forecast looks like we might have a few days of if melting during the day and freezing again overnight.

We have a couple of inches of crunchy snow in the northern reaches of Midlothian. The snow line is basically the city bypass, beyond which there be dragons the snow hangs around for a lot longer.

Midlothian of course didn't bother to scrape all the leaf mush and SKOG off the railway path, despite me pointing out to them, on their own travel forum a good two or three weeks ago, that yet again it was all entirely predictable, so now it'll freeze into an icy lumpy mess.

I didn't cycle. Probably for the best, although City Centre and Heriot-Watt campus were mostly fine. A nice fresh layer of snow in the Pentlands though.
