30mm Schwalbe Winters' swept path slightly narrower than that of a 35mm Armadillo Nimbus, if anyone else has that particular swap to make and was worried about clearance. Slightly easier to mount than a 23mm Armadillo

Only available in 38 mm or 1.9 inch versions but with the four for three that is just over eleven quid a tyre

Well if they keep doing 'big' weather stories, they might eventually get one right -

Better that they use the Met Office than seaweed.

Definitely milder this morning. No ice to worry about in Livingston.

If I had much more time (and I do mean much more time), I'd do an analysis of screaming tabloid weather warnings, comparing them against the weather we actually experienced. Shouting that temperatures in Britain will plummet to -10C isn't actually that exciting if it turns out that the -10C is expected at the summit weather station on Cairngorm.

Yes, feeling a bit over-encumbered on the winter warrior with full spikey-tired glory this morning. An extra 4 minutes to get to work today, which leads to the rather neat sum of 1 kilo of extra commuting weight = 1 minute of extra commuting time...

Also (and maybe it's just me), but does anyone else feel like they are riding a child's bike when they transition from Road Bike to Hybrid? Months since I rode the winter bike and I forgot how small it feels!

A VIOLENT Atlantic storm is set to batter Scotland from tonight, unleashing winds of up to 80mph and sending temperatures plummeting in -9C.

    MUST be true it's in

Blink and you'll miss this one:

On-one are selling Scwable winter stud tyres for £11.99 each and as they are linked to planet-X you'll also get 4 for 3 making each tyre cost £9.98 including postage.

I've not ridden either but this doesn't appear to be a current model and looses the slits in the tread of the winter tyres.

Tomorrow looks like it will be a day for the train, suspect the bridge will be closed to cycles for most of day.

This weeks weather, last weeks laziness, and next weeks perhaps new arrival is playing havoc with this years milage target. I've told my wife she can't drop for another 64 miles!

Whilst I have been kind of regretting not having cycled in this morning given that it looked like the worst of the ice had cleared up on the bus route, at least, the dark, wet and increasingly windy conditions are going some way towards making me feel ok about that now. Did any ice remain on the towpath this morning out of interest? In any case, I think that I will be on the bus again tomorrow morning to avoid the worst of the storm...

No ice remained on the towpath. Wind evaluation will take place at 07h00 tomorrow. Working from home a very real possibility. Sounds like the hatches will need bigger battens.

FRB has been closed to bikes since about 10:30am, despite a decent four hour window with a 27mph average and under 50 max gust.

They are getting very cautious these days.. I don't think they can be bothered opening closing reopening more than once a day.

Doubt it will be open again til mid-morning on thursday.

It is somewhat wet and windy out there.
Colleague who arrived at work without a coat this morning has just accepted the loan of a spare one I keep in the office...

    Good day to trike.

MMW counter at under 800 around 5pm. Sure it will make 1000 before end of day (maybe)

I was no.346 on the MMW counter this morning - so bike usage is definitely down, by perhaps 50% on summer/autumn levels. A bit wild riding home though on my Brompton. I was struggling to top 7mph into the wind when heading uphill past Braidburn valley.

Well, my flight back in to Edinburgh was barely able to land due to the wind, and now over an hour later I've still not eaten anything as I'm still feeling quite sick from being thrown around as it tried to get down. And it's meant to be even windier tomorrow! Therefore, I'm thinking a different mode of transport to the bike is going to be the sensible plan for tomorrow's commute.

If any of you are flying tomorrow, good luck, and take a sick bag.

Studs on and Lumotec-with-no-standlight replaced with a fresh SafeRide. Still need a new lens for the Seculite+ on the rear, but can manage without for a day or two.

Rain felt a bit sharp and pointy like hail as I waited behind a red light on York Place.
