FETA are advising that there is a high chance that the Forth Road Bridge will be closed to *all* traffic during the morning commute time tomorrow.

    http://www.forthroadbridge.org/news/very-strong-winds-forecast-expect-severe-disruption

Between that and the rail disruptions, not going to be a happy commute for the Fifers.
For those south of the bridge (which includes me) I'd seriously warn against trying to cycle. 77MPH winds...

I have prepared for The Last Day Of Earth by means of bringing mileomnomnometer down off its hook.

I don't fancy the grind of pushing wintersaurus into the wind; I fancy being spun out on the way back even less and my road cleat shoes fit my shoe covers better anyway.

My Fife to Edinburgh commuting strategy is to sleep late and work on the sofa.

Right now, I'm planning on cycling. Come 7:15am tomorrow morning, however... we shall see. Surely it cannae be *that* bad...?

It might bring a few trees down on the path, although that has happened so regularly in the last few years that you wonder if eventually all the duff ones will have fallen over...

Many Scotrail trains cancelled on Thursday.

I remember cycling a couple of years back when the gusts topped 100mph on Braids Hills. That morning the wind pushed me all the way up Morningside Road!

Anybody commuting through Musselburgh might need their water-wings for the trip home.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I'll bother getting the train to Dundee tomorrow. Will see in the morning, but much reduced service plus the potential for trees blocking the line, possible landslips later in the day due to heavy rain...

Work from home might be more sensible.

Well, that was both terrifying and amazingly awesome fun. But mainly terrifying.

My ride is 90% eastbound, so most of the time I had a fantastic tailwind. But the occasional bits where I'm going north (Drum Brae, for example) was really bad, getting blown sideways right into the middle of the road.

In retrospect, I probably should have taken the car. I therefore recommend that, if you're likely to be on roads going anything other than directly eastbound, you take some other form of transport this morning...

Two Strava KOMs, though. \o/ They probably won't last the day; I'd have been able to go faster if it hadn't been pitch black and if a car hadn't driven straight at me on my side of the road for one of them.

    But still, terrifying.

Nae bloomin' chance of me cycling this morning. I got the bus and the bottom deck was full so on North Bridge, all I could see was Waverley station faaar below getting CLOSER then further away. CLOSER then further away.

    Scary.

I headed West today but admittedly only a couple of miles and completely offroad.

    Can't say I recommend it.

I was in granny gear and the going was tough. Was blown to a standstill a couple of times but never got any speed up to be out of control. Being on the road wouldn't be fun..

    Stay safe..

Echoing mkns in saying that it was good fun, even though I was heading Westbound so I'm looking forward to some Strava segments tonight!

I was only blown to a stop once, though admittedly that was more my own fault in handling my bike rather than any particular strong gust - I found it easier to maintain momentum than getting up to speed.

    Gusts of cross-winds really hazardous.

Gusting to almost 90mph at the bridge...

Riding in from Currie was OK, since the wind was dead behind me (Donkey lane was quite exciting though).

Now I'm sitting in a building which is swaying like a pendulum and feeling rather motion sick! (At least I'm not on the top floor!)

As most Thursdays, I came in by car before going off to clients. The traffic was appalling, but I did see three cyclists, one of which was near Dobbies and another was in Gilmerton (the cycle mechanic at the shop in Dobbies). The road down from Gilmerton the Dobbies was wild - a huge crosswind - not pleasant or safe on a bike. There was a big flood at Elginhaugh Bridge as well.

Easy enough ride to town this morning from Bonaly - wind mostly behind me and drivers seemed quite understanding of my middle of the road positioning to avoid kerbs and puddles. I used the canal (normally too busy for my taste at rush hour) which was fine until Harrison Park where the cross winds got a bit wild. A chap walking the other way with his bike tells me that the canal is impassable somewhere between Fountainbridge and Harrison Park due to fallen fencing (presumably at the building site). I didnt' find out and hopped onto Dundee Street.

Bridge is shut, and trains sporadic, the horses on the hill also seem to be having a bit of a time of it. Nice and warm in here, yawn.

Kudos to those who braved the conditions this morning. I decided not to risk it and brought the car in today.

This is now so far removed from my 'normal' morning ritual that I managed to forget my mobile phone.

Took the bus this morning and saw that there were still a fair number of cyclists out. Those heading west along St John's Road were putting in an heroic effort to keep moving.

Cycled in eastward from Roseburn across town, lots of road work barriers, binbags etc strewn across roads, not much in the way of tree branches.
    Wind was biblical.
