Certainly a bit blowy this morning, a couple of gusts were pushing the front of my Surly around! Doesn't bode well for conditions tomorrow (or the headwind I'm going to hit shortly heading out of town!)

Odd whistling noises through the spokes this morning as the wind hit them at the right (wrong?) angle. I think the wind (or my post-festive slovenliness) added a good 12 minutes on to my commute this morning, felt like hard going at times. All times that is.

Saw one other cyclist lose headway on London Road at Abbeyhill and get off and push.

I think that this morning was the windiest cycle that I have experienced on my 'new' commuter bike so far. I was blown to an almost complete halt once and fought against some interesting side winds in Wester Hailes... I cycled across the aqueduct regardless, but chose to give way to an oncoming bike despite probably having the 'priority'. The only advantage of the wind was that it allowed me to overtake a cyclist who had been arriving earlier than me and parking their new bike in 'my' spot in the shed.

I am currently regretting not having left work rather earlier this evening, although I have vague hopes that the current storminess will blow over fairly quickly...

I left about 6.30 and apart from couple of gusts that stopped me in my tracks went ok but slowly. Had been very heavy rain just a bit before so hope people missed that?

Obvioulsy I go opposite Direction from jdanielp and Kapps went down canal major chirruping at scott russell aqueduct but could only spot very big raven and it was not making the noise. My speed in to work was impressive but back the way v slow.

I got entirely drenched going along the Lasswade-Loanhead-Roslin path, but there's enough cover that the headwind wasn't too fearsome.

Driving tests should be sat in weather like this. If you can't drive competently unless it's sunny and calm, you don't deserve a licence.

    Sorry to hear that uberuce.

Off topic, I tried to negotiate a reduction on a pair of shoes today because they had leather soles. I said they would let in the rain. The tattooed lady selling them agreed that leather was porous and suggested I only wear them on dry days. Her tattoos were sentences written on various parts of her body. However, yestwrday I saw two polis in short sleeves and they had whole arm footballer tatts. are poils allowed this or were they tattooed imposters?

Due to expected high winds on Friday we advise customers due to travel north of Edinburgh to travel tomorrow (Thurs) if possible. #Scotstorm

@Uberuce - my driving instructor positively beamed when it rained, claiming it was 'great practice', ranking up there with a drive through the city centre and runs from Musselburgh to the Gyle along the City Bypass. I think it snowed too during one lesson.

Needless to say, the younger version of Mandopicker didn't find any of this particularly enjoyable. So much so that I avoid driving in central Edinburgh wherever possible...to the extent of taking highly complex 'shortcuts'.

My first driving lesson was in the snow. I think that's why it all seemed so terrifying.

The wind was somehow managing to blow uphill in the Innocent tunnel and uphill along Restalrig Avenue shortly afterwards yesterday evening, strongly enough to counteract the gradients of both.

Some pretty biblical rain last night, particularly at Picardy Place. Very much an "I'm already so wet I can't get any wetter, just grin and bear it" sort of an end to the commute. It wasn't actually that cold.

Complete cretin of a taxi passed me on Princes Street at South St. Andrews Street where the road narrows as I slowed to try and cross the tram tracks. Forced me to come to a halt as he squeezed past (I couldn't go forward or I would have ended up in the tracks) which meant I was then stationary at the road with a pile of Lothian buses trying to squeeze by too. Unfortunately he got through the lights at Waterloo Place and I didn't so couldn't have an angry remonstration with him.

Definitely damp on the cycle home last night. Not helped by the A814 flooding, so passing cars were shunting walls of water in my direction. Had the camera on, so will see if there's any entertaining footage when I get back tonight.

    Snorkel up.

A friend of mine will be using his child seat for much the same reason tomorrow. There should be some new KOMs by mid morning, I'll certainly be giving one on my commute a go.

Wind has definitely picked up as forecast if noise in my chimney is any guide.

Even before I went blergh today I was planning on taking the bus. Can't figure out a route in that isn't dangerously exposed to crosswinds or so convoluted that the bus is barely slower.

Gusting nicely to 25 metres per second at KB now.

    1 m/s is 2.2mph, so it's a bit breezy out there.

Scotrail have cancelled all services in Scotland until 10am to assess damage/check safety. Other operators have some services running, but not many...

Lots of tree debris on the NEPN between Ainslie Park and Roseburn.
I stopped to clear about 5 of the larger obstructions that were across the width of the whole path...but there's more to be aware of.

This morning was the only day this week I've not had to hoof some binbags or lumps of christmas tree out of the cycle lane.

I took the Innocent into town this morning, as I was worried about the wind. Apart from having to kick some large bits of wood off the path it wasn't too bad.

I walked in. Kicked a lot of branches off the cycl path on NMW.

3 vehicles driving around; 1 parked at top of MMW

Big debris that gembo reported had been moved and taped off, but the path there still full of debris (less so after I finished moving it while guy in white van with motor running watched me)

The weather didn't seem too bad heading out of town from Morningside and then on the towpath this morning. Whilst it was windier than Wednesday morning, the gusts didn't feel as additionally severe this morning, which made it mostly just a slog. The debris on the path increased a little bit beyond the bypass, but the worst part of the route by far was the North entrance to Heriot-Watt Uni which was strewn with twigs, branches etc. I hope that that and the Meadows will have been cleared by tonight.

I was delayed a bit by fixing a puncture before I left the house, was expecting the wind to be worse (c. 845AM), it was constant but not too gusty and didn't feel like the windiest 'mute this week.

Plenty tree debris on the path between Balgreen and Corstorphine but mainly twiggy stuff, some larger peieces already lifted to the side by the tide I was there.

Lots of christmas trees awaiting disposal (council posters said to put out on Wednesday, I've not seen any being lifted) which have now relocated themselves downwind.

Wind has done a nice job of totalling some of those daft grey wooden information boards on George Street.

The only tree I saw which was down was on Glencairn Crescent (opposite side of the Elderslie Crescent Circus), which had taken out the rear window of one parked car and the roof and windscreen of another.

I hope the damage is not too bad, tammytroot.

Our big wheely bin was making its usual bid for freedom (or at least the other side of the road).
I noticed at least one bin that had been blown into the cycle lane on Slateford Road.
One cyclist having a good old wobble - not sure it if was just wind related or a combination of wind and trying to look back before moving over to make a right turn.
