Wind was being weird on the way home. Butting me from the right on the first bit of the Pollock-Scotsman road to the point where I was considering stopping and sticking my pannier on my back to give it less leverage, but after going past the clumps of trees the wind suddenly reappeared going in the opposite direction and puffing me along all the way to Holyrood.

Yes, definitely the morning for it, I thought I recognised @gembo - but wasn't sure. Good to put the bike/face to the username :)
Then had a quick chat about bike seats, with a chat passing while heading over the aquaduct, by the time I had pushed the bike and 2 toddlers across there was quite a line of bikes behind me, including @shuggiet who accompanied me the short distance to the turn needed for the childminder.
Having the wind behind this evening was glorious.

It's raining quite a lot out there. Kudos to all the other mad cyclists I saw...

Funny day today, slightly in between my early time and my later time for setting off, saw no cyclists heading east until I hit the canal towpath at Harrison park. However on way back from a very very wet Coatbridge (only bike racks at the stations) there were other cyclists on the train - three in total between sunny side and edinburgh park. Never had such high numbers before. People had come off their road commutes I think

I've started making offerings to our local wind deity. I've decided that he (or she) has started to commute in the same direction as me, and is arranging the wind to suit herself or himself. For a few days now I've had a tailwind in both directions, so I'm keeping up the stream of incantations, burnt offerings and libations to encourage him or her to continue with the commuting. Do deities qualify for Cycle for Work? Do you think he or she knows about it?
I obviously did something to upset the rain god this afternoon, though.

Very dark on the way home. The past few evenings it's had that weird sort of light which seems light because it's light so late, but it was very dark grey over town when I swang back through Craigmillar.

Gritters were out when I headed home c5.30
Posted 9 years ago # -
Yes gritter in South Queensferry too. Windy coming back over the bridge.

NEPN at Roseburn seems to have been particularly comprehensively gritted this morning. Are they trying to use it all up before the end of the winter season/financial year?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Yeah, I saw gritters out in Corstorphine last night.
Today was the first day of the year I've commuted to work in shorts.
Go figure.

Also saw lots of gritters last night. Very strange.
We know they were boasting about starting the winter with a high stockpile of grit and salt, but this is a rather drastic measure to clear it. No chance of ice last night. None at all.

"No chance of ice last night. None at all."
Really, none at all?
The cars in our street in Livingston all had ice on them this morning.

The Lothians will be hit by gale force winds and heavy rain tomorrow as the Capital braces itself for a blustery start to spring, with yellow wind warnings issued by the Met Office across the area.
Gusts of up to 65 mph are set to whip through Edinburgh from the early hours of the morning and into the evening, with the windy conditions slowly dying down from Sunday onwards.

There has been some serious gritting of the roads, and in some cases parts of the pavements, going on this evening in town. There's a little snow forecast overnight, but I'd be surprised if it stays for long.
Posted 9 years ago # -
No gritting on the broomhouse path this morning, but it was just a little frosty - no ice as such.

It was david Jason in Balerno this am
Snowed on going to work and heavy sleety on at home time. Very heavy
Some very mental wind speeds on BBC and Met for tonight and tomorrow.

Let me be the first to say that shorts and a long and short sleeve woollen top was not appropriate attire for the ride home. At least I had a buff on!
Posted 9 years ago # -
Had shorts on today too as I am insisting it is summer and has been for several weeks.
Ides, Equinox then clocks

Proper snow back onall sunny again in EH1, rather than the polystyrene stuff from lunchtime.Posted 9 years ago # -
Snowing quite well at the summit of Edinburgh and jolly cold. Think I might have veggie haggis for tea.
Edit: well, it was snowing eight minutes ago.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Snowed on me several times on way to the summit. Brown pasta twirls for tea

Lovely bitey pointy face-hail on the westward sections of the first bit of the way home. On other sections I was blown up to 13mph from a standing start.

A gritter has passed by my house.....brrrr.

I regretted my transport choices yesterday because I forgot I had to be over in South Gyle (from Newington) after lunch. Hailed on in Wester Hailes, and ten minutes late due to the relentless icy headwind. Plus a wet bum as I've not got any mudguards on my town bike. Yuck!
(Hello, Other Commuters - I'm new (to the forum, anyway)!)

Hi unhurt
Hope you then had the advantage of tailwind on way home. When heading west last night all eastbound cyclists tanking along
Posted 9 years ago # -
Hi! Eventually, though it did seem to be shifting about a bit by then... Spring possibly back this morning?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Heavy hail in George Square :(
who took their studs off yesterday???!
Posted 9 years ago # -
The hail, sleet and snow that fell at Heriot-Watt during the last 10-15 minutes doesn't seem to have amounted to much more than dampening the footpath outside my office.
Posted 9 years ago # -
And the temperature dropped from about 7 degrees to 2 degrees in a few minutes. All those folk in shorts and without gloves are going to have to suffer again (plenty out in 1 degree this morning)
