"Severe weather warning"

Having learned a lesson the cold, wet way a few weeks back I'm feeling very smug for having kept an emergency full-finger gloves, buff and waterproof in the bottom of my pannier. I very nearly took them out this morning as I got ready for work but for some reason folded them back in...

I had gloves but nothing else. That was a miserable ride home.

I am lurking in the office in the (vain) hope that it will suddenly get warmer so I can go home without freezing my fingers off...

I've always found shoes to be quite indispensable (and surely you must have found the saddle a wee bit chilly?)

Could be June when you leave!

True! I couldn't wait that long, sadly. Fingers didn't quite get frostbitten but my fingerless gloves are not leaving the house without backup for a while...

    A yellow warning of wind;

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2650225#weather-warnings

~45-50mph winds overnight and tomorrow morning, into the afternoon.

I think I might have mentioned this before, but, as far as I can tell, the fairly new black wind speed/direction indicators on the BBC forecasts refer to gusting rather than general wind speed, so it might not be as bad as it looks at first glance, although it could still be 'fun' this evening and tomorrow depending on travel direction.

I had a strong headwind going to work this morning and a strong headwind coming home. It was quite depressing.

@greenroofer odd as I had strong tail wind in the morning but strong head wind this pm. I was a little earlier than usual as plumber coming to fix pine needle blockage. Alas I missed him by five mins due to the headwind and fair bit of ingress in the deluge. But great guy came back and was up on the roof in the hurricane and damage limited.

Wind swung round to a southerly during the day, seemed to be ever so slightly south-south-westerly, so I had a morning headwind and an evening buffeting enough for it to be hard work both ways.

Yep, got damp cycling to the pool yesterday evening. Felt like I was battling a headwind in both directions too. Boyfriend of Fimm who only came to the pub got rained on a lot. This morning it was sunny when I got off the train so I put my sunglasses on only for it to start raining but I kept the glasses on as they were keeping the rain and wind out of my eyes.

Got exceptionally sodden coming home from yoga-ing last night about 8pm. Nor did I much enjoy today's PM push up Dundas Street & over & up North Bridge into all the wind on a bike with limited gears. Oof!

Seems to be a week of little rain, low winds speeds and reasonable sun/warmth.

    Enjoy!

A week of soggy beards, pink foreheads and dipterids collecting in the corners of the eyes.

We may need some advice about how to cope with clement weather

With the heatwave pollen levels will be high while air quality will drop as smog from the continent settles over the country.

    WRONG!

It's local smog for local people.

"One man's weeds is another man's urban greening"

Yeah, someone I know recently removed a small bush that was highly successful at attracting bees in an otherwise bleak bit of tarmac/gravel.

'Its roots were undermining the wall'

    True, but...

Bloke on a bike on the canal this morning fully dressed and with a parka on top. (Meant to put that in spotted)

  28. No mention of the storm last night yet? It was great - I love a good thunderstorm, and we get proper ones with forked lightning so infrequently here. Wish I'd been more prepared and got to a vantage point, but at least in the garden I could shelter under the gazebo from the rain (which was infrequent, but damned heavy).

Had seen a few flashes as I watched the world cup semi final on the computer, but thought it was just high level light-the-clouds stuff. Nabbed a photo resting the camera on the wall, and realised it was more, so the tripod and wide angle lens came out. SO much fun to watch.

Nice, I didn't realise there was even a spot of thunder... I was asleep by 2300...

Good pics. Out of interest, how do you take photos of lightning? Leave the camera on a long exposure and wait for a burst?

My wife got up and watched the storm but I slept through it.
