This morning's wind was actually quite helpful; it was in my face only on downhill stretches that are usually a little on the spinny side, and the rest of the time had the good grace to be on the far side of local topography.

I walked to Edinburgh Park, my knees been giving me jip and didn't fancy a slog directly into the wind along the Broomhouse Path.

The communal bins in the new town were flapping their wings like like fledgeling eagles at lunchtime.

    Rubber side down, everyone.

Canal was a bit gusty but I got away with riding one gear lower than usual. It's the fallen twigs and small branches that were making things a bit treacherous. Be careful in the dark folks.

@forthroadbridge: FRB is still closed to high sided vehicles - winds are forecast to remain strong for the rest of the afternoon

Next door's laundry invaded my garden as a result of the breeze and had to be repatriated.

BRITS are bracing themselves for weatherbomb chaos as 60mph winds, torrential rain and temperatures of -4C get set to hit this weekend.

The north west is expected to get off to a particularly wet and windy start on Saturday, becoming clearer, but colder, across Western Scotland in the afternoon.

Scots in the north could even see the first snow of the season on Saturday evening.

    Weatherbomb and chaos! We're doomed!

Actually, 50-60mph winds are not uncommon between October and February in Scotland. Plenty of evidence on the KB weather station historic stats.

"weatherbomb" to me suggests something more like Hurricane Patricia!

Meanwhile weatherunderground.com is currently forecasting 2mm of rain, temperatures as low as 6C and wind up to 29 km/h for Edinburgh this weekend.

Any weather that's not 13 degrees, overcast with a slight coastal breeze is now CHAOS in the press

I do worry people will grow accustomed to this constant melodrama and ignore real flash flood risks, and so on.

Go metric for lower temperatures and higher wind speeds!

    Are any temperature scales metric?

Agreed. Stay in your car. Do not walk or cycle!
If you feel your car is not sufficiently weather proof buy a bigger one!

Transport minister Derek Mackay has confirmed he is preparing for the worst amid predictions of the coldest winter for 50 years.

Top clickbait headline from the EEN.

    It appears to be:

MSP reads newspaper headline, asks transport minister about it, minister confirms preparations.

It doesn't say where this forecast of winter apocalypse came from.

Water of Leith almost dry just below the weir in Colinton Dell - I was able to walk across with just my boots getting wet. The water level is so low it's all going off down the mill lade.

    Brrrrrrr !

A bit chilly this morning, some frost on the grass on the broomhouse path.

Met Office 'feels like' 3c was probably right

It was 2 degrees in Dalkeith. Brrr

I have a record 4 pairs of gloves in my Carradice. Mitts, long-sleeved autumn gloves and winter gloves x 2 pairs (the latter because I forgot to take one pair home last night).

The Meadows this morning had a layer of mist maybe a metre thick with clear sunshine above. Beautiful. Commuters were stopping to take photographs.

This has been the best autumn I can remember. Anyone else agree? Couldn't believe how warm it was on Sunday.

Saturday - on Pentlands in the afternoon. Clouds came louring in full threatening drama then unloured. Really beautiful.

Vanilla Pod van at Harlaw for refreshments. Cycle friendly too. They stock inner tubes and have a track pump.
