Looks ropey just now on roads outside my house. I am waiting until the rush hour is over as I have some flexibility this week.

They look ok here now. I'd be on main roads most if the way....only concern is the roads past Craigies after the turnoff before the dual carriageway.

Ah Neil yes that road is a concern. Main roads will be possible if tricky. Due to clear up for the return

I'll just get the train I think... Shame, since as you say the return journey would be fine...

I saw people out in shorts on Sunday morning. Doable but pretty sure it's not good for the knees...

You can see that a folding bike is good for days like this?

Sadly the Brompton is in BikeTrax having its brakes fixed, so I am on the road bike. Conditions in Gorgie/Dalry were fine, conditions in Livingston are slushy! Only one idiot, a private hire driver coming through too close for the conditions. Otherwise I think the snow was making the drivers nervous - good for me.

I was feeling quite heroic as I headed across town with two kids - one on a road bike - but traffic was nonexistent (except for the massive lorry that tried* to overtake us through the roadworks), and then we were on cycle infra from Melville Drive to the commonwealth pool. Not bad.

*well, I sat determinedly in the middle of the lane, so I don't know if it really thought it could, as it didn't get a chance to even try.

I was hoping to cycle again today at last, but I'm seeing a heavy frost on the roof opposite my flat in the city centre. The ground looks ok though I can't see any sign of ice in a handy semi-permanent puddle in our garden. How's it looking on the towpath especially out of town anyone?

Hmm, quite a few ice reports on Twitter so I'll play it safe and use a City Single...

It's very icy on untreated surfaces in Midlothian and south Edinburgh this morning, including the edges of main roads. Our road, which is never treated, was very slippery.

  15. Paths looked very icy this morning, and even on the main roads it was necessary to stay further out from the gutter than usual in lots of places.

Frost on cars off Leith Links. Frosty piles of leaves in the gutter on east Milton Road West. Frost all over Innocent at Bingham. Frost on Meadows-Innocent path corners at Hermit's Croft. Meadows/Bruntsfield links paths OK but lightly speckled on exposed corners, like the top of Leamington Walk.

Very noticeable that paths and council properties not gritted at all. i nearly fell (on foot) as I left Commonwealth pool, and then pushed off with my foot as I left the carpark and foot slid terribly. Entrance to Pollock Halls was liberally gritted.

Very frosty in Fife and on the paths coming into town, but seemed to be quite grippy as long as I avoided the icy puddles and cornered with care. Suspect that it was sufficiently cold for the top layer of frost to remain hard and granular, rather than the usual melting slightly to leave a thin film of liquid water over invisible black ice.

I cycled home from the pub last night on very slippery road as ice was forming around 9.30pm. This morning treacherous, I think lack of gritting and lack of traffic as school hols. My buddy went his end as they say in the west on the Lanark road just beyond Balerno fortunately CLA 7R who cut her pass very fine was long gone as he was spread eagled on the road. Landed on Padded hip and the Aldi biblongs I gave him stood up to the crash. His bike also ok. I just managed to unclip and avoid crashing into him. I will take the studded tyred bike out for a jaunt later as we aborted our trip to apple pie.

Very icy heading out of town from Crammond. I think the council must have been caught snoozing as there was no grit on some of the bus routes. winter marathons were fine, when I stopped and put my foot down pulling off Maybury Drive I noticed I was on black ice.

Came off this morning on the Broomhouse path at Makro.

Black ice, no grit. Was a strange one at I came down really quickly and slid about 15 feet in front of the bike - quite impressive if not McCaskill-esqe

Currently nursing a grazed elbow, bruised knee and a sore hip but no damage to bike or clothing (win !).

Tweeted the council as I didn't see any grit on the roads either.

@Nelly - ouch. Hope your injuries aren't too bad.

@nelly ayeee, that must have been very slippy if you slid that far

I walked along to Edinburgh Park and I'm thankful I did, I was going to post that it's very slippy there but figured every one would have left by the time I got on the train.

I wondering if gritters underestimated the type of icing we got last night. On previous mornings this week, our ungritted road was largely dry and this ice free. However this morning it was very slippery. Perhaps there was more humidity last night leading up to the frost.

Even at KB where they are very careful to apply salt to paths, it was very slippery in places e.g. outside JCMB.

Icey out west too - like acsimpson I pulled up to a junction without issue on the spikes, but did a great bambi-on-ice impression when I put my foot down to balance.

Congratulations to Nelly for prioritisation of damage to stuff that heals by itself!

Was amazed I made it to the bottom of the hill on the backpaths in Livingston upright this morning! A looooot of ice, unstudded tyres and worn brake pads (which I forgot to replace again!) made for an interesting cycle.

Hopefully the Lang Whang will be clear (and properly gritted) in the evening - its my usual commute home in the evenings!

How is the ice (and snow?) situation out there this morning? I get the impression that the weather forecasts maybe got the warning about the snow wrong at least...

I listened to the warnings and got the bus. No sign of snow or ice that I could see.

No snow in Livingston (which often has snow or heavier frosts when Edinburgh doesn't).
