Someone has posted a Youtube video of the Warren Evans Beds van driving onto the Forth Road Bridge and then being blown over. It was tweeted so I posted it on their facebook site. It was deleted twice before I was blocked. :D
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!

Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Impressive demonstration of the power of the wind...
Brilliant way to prevent tailgating!
Looking like it will be a bit blowy this afternoon. 29mph sou'westerly forecast for 3pm.
also gusts of 60-70mph (Met Office weather warning)
When something like that van occurs I am reminded of the tragedy where the guys in the flat bed truck crying sheets of ply clocked tht it was windy and they hadn't secured the cargo so they put one of the guys on top of the sheets and he was blown to his death along with the sheets in briny depths. Very sad.
It's blowing loads now. I just squeeked in a hilly ride over in the Gladhouse area but it was a little dodgy on the top even then.
Just come in under the weather on MMW. I was on low two wheeler. If weather gets much gustier, a low three wheeler is harder to blow over or fall off on ice when that returns. My solution for the extreme conditions that are forecast for next wee while! Of course falling tree branches still a hazard!
Whoop just been doing laps of arthurs seat. My rims are not even that deep (1.5inch) plus an inch of tyre it was pretty hairy when the wind caught it! Never felt that. Especially surprising when I felt it for the first time doing (ahem) 75kmph down the hill! wobblewobblewobble...
Just had a bracing run back from Porty with No.1 son along the Prom and Restalrig path. Surprisingly not too bad, particularely the stretch along Seafield Road was not as gusty as I had feared. Restalrig path had a bit of a geadwind at times, just the specific wind direction, otherwise very sheltered. Side streets off Easter Road actually worse when you are going along in shelyer, then a gap in the tenements and Whoosh! You are blown sideways a bit.
Seems to be getting worse and wetter now so glad we're indoors.
I waited until this afternoon to do some shopping because the weather earlier wasn't challenging enough.
Grinding up the main road out of town straight into the wind on a Brompton was hilariously slow going. A bit breezy, but I've cycled in worse.
Had a fairly horrid and hairy ride home down Broughton Street. Horizontal feezing rain and wind that threatened to blow me into the opposite lane. Glad to be home and warmed up.

Apologies but regrettably we are having to cancel the meeting this afternoon.
The high-winds forecasted for this afternoon, coupled with my childcare arrangements mean I am unable to take the risk of the bridge closing and me being unable to return home.

Don't see anything major forecast on BBC wether, 17 - 21mph winds from the South at commuting time. Think the bridge will be fine.
It will however be a quick passage over heading North. #wheeeee.
Did see something a few days ago mentioning high winds for this afternoon, but that warning seems to have been withdrawn. Next storm event now forecast for Friday apparently...
Yeah, the weather on the telly last night was all 'WE'RE DOOMED!', but the Met Office site and the BBC Weather site seem to contradict this...
Aye I was warned that it would be windy today and took the bus, but on leaving my house it was very mild and not too windy. Should have cycled in!
It took me 1h19 on the big bike to Livingston this morning, which is 9 - 10 minutes slower than usual. I can confirm there was a headwind, but it was OK - just about - one of two gusts were "interesting". I do fear a close pass coinciding with a gust and so took primary more of the time than usual!
I had a few side-swipes from the wind this morning, but nothing too bad. I flew home on Monday with an amazing tailwind.
Supposedly the worst of the storm will be overnight. Best batten down any chicken coops and outbuildings before they end up in the sea.
Apologies but regrettably we are having to cancel the meeting this afternoon.
What about telephone conferencing, or video conferencing? I'm all for not having to travel far and wide for meetings if I can help it.
There's always Skype* which will work on just about any computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access. I use it quite a lot for meetings.
*other inernet telephony applications are available.
I had to cycle to Penicuik (near enough) this morning and back at around 7ish - going there was horrible; coming back was very fun until my phillips saferide jumped off the bike while doing about 30 and I had to run into traffic to try and save it... funny how nobody noticed a spinning light on the floor.... it survived being run over three times though.
May be snow tomorrow, probably won't get as far south as edinburgh but the fifers may see some
This morning was the windiest cycle commute I've had for a while; actually having to make an effort to cycle down Middle Meadow Walk was fair warning but seeing the gusts approaching on the canal surface made things manageable.
Well that was, quite frankly, terrifying... the wind seems to have picked up and is very gusty and coming from an unusual direction too. My light road bike was all over the place. Given how slowly I was going and how often I took the lane, I think I did quite well to only be shouted at once...
Going out again in a bit, but on the Brompton which is a much heavier and more stable beast...
Possibly straight from south instead of south west. and howling
+1 to fimm. On what is normally a zero-effort trundle to Longstone Sainsbury's I very rapidly found myself a metre or so to the right of where I intended to be and faintly wondering whether my bike was demonically possessed.
Car driver behind me either read my erratic movement correctly, and/or felt the buffeting too, but either way they hung commendably far back.
When I noticed that I had One of the Good Ones behind me, the terror abated somewhat.
I had a good lorry driver behind me on Craigleith Rd this morning. I was struggling with the side wind but he held back and wasn't going to overtake. As I had decided to go slow I thought it was unfair to hold him up so pulled in and waved him past
Snow in Balerno this morning but slushy
