I got the bus. And still got rather damp!

Tomorrow morning I have to collect an 8kg turkey from Castle Terrace by bike. Wet AND windy. That'll be fun! But still more fun than driving into town on a Saturday last shopping day before Christmas (the horror!).

I need to either drive out to the gyle tomorrow morning (bike is still in pieces after moving) or walk after work. Neither looking particularly attractive!

I'd do it tonight to get it over with - Saturday morning you will thank you!

@unhurt from Brewsters? We had ours delivered by the boyfriend of the one of the people who works there. It was scrumptious, (We had turkey yesterday to celebrate arrival of m-I-l and other things, and are having lamb on Sunday)

So windy! Free Irn Bru giveaway on Princes St means my panniers are full too. Cycling up the hill is going to be interesting...

I found it a little windy this morning but nothing like the winds stated on bbc weather. I am going to callander tomorrow but think will opt for the train with the winds planned

@SRD - a bronze turkey from Gartmorn Farm - they have a stall at the farmer's market for pickup (rather wish I'd sprung for delivery now!). Hoping it will be tasty as well as well-treated prior to death.

I might argue for lamb next year (or venison!)...

Crimbo shopping around town this morning - weather not too bad around 9. Got worse as the morning wore on - actually had to get up out the saddle along parts of the canal (heading west) just to keep going. Really quite unpleasant now. Take care out there.

    Should ok(ish) after about 1/2 2.

(Well that's when I'm going out again.)

Went to Craigleith via NEPN earlier and it was quite sheltered, although a lot of branches down. Different story on the way back - was almost blown to a halt on Corstorphine Road and the heavy rain didn't help either.

There's something inherently humiliating about putting on waterproof trousers in public.

Actually wondering whether it might be better to leave work early or wait for chdot's prediction of less weather later.

Walked to the gyle. Most unpleasant. Weather was miserable too.

"There's something inherently humiliating about putting on waterproof trousers in public."

Depends whether you look like you're going to fall over.

If not it's a sign that you are organised and determined, so it's perhaps some of the stray onlookers who are feeling humiliated(?)

@IWRATS - I find taking them off in public is worse...

(I was peeling down soggy waterproof troos worn over 3/4 length tights before taking a seat in a diner one day on my Canada trip and got an only half humorous "whoa there!" from some other patrons who were slightly concerned I was just undressing..!)

I don't think he'd put them on without dismounting, anyway.

It's when a restaurant takes one look at you & brings out a mop and bucket that you know your dignity is somewhere else.

@unhurt ah yes, we often get duck from there. Brewsters (egg people) free range chicken is fab.

Was going to take train, home but managed to lose the fare out my back pocket on way down to bikes in the lift, then there was a car on my tail up the hill, making right turn to Waverley mildly hazardous so just went for it, not too bad.

Off to put it's a wonderful life on at Balerno village screen now, we put it on once a year at this time. I know every single last word

@unhurt It's still within the weight limit of most child seats, where it wouldn't get as warm as it would in a rucksack or cause as much imbalance as it would in a pannier (unless you're going to balance it with cheeses and sausages on the other side).

Rain so heavy to the west this morning we missed the Coatbridge m74 turn, that and I think the new turn is now maybe open as one lane but hard to tell as no signs and very hard rain.

Great drainage engineers they had on that job!

I hear this path is only 'temporary' until they eventually build a bridge? How long is 'temporary' though?

    Two years?

    Five years?

    Ten years?
