  1. Oh - wait. Since I last checked my phone 30 mins ago, they've issued a yellow snow warning again! It's for Friday now though.

"Wonder if the 40 - 50mph winds forecast will drop away to lesser speeds before tonight / tomorrow morning?"

    That's still the big ? !

Still warm too, but not for much longer -

Not convinced the BBC has the wind speed projections for tomorrow correct -

Values in black circles on the BBC site are gust speeds.

Pretty windy just there when I went out for the milk. Bins blown about. Xmas trees were collected in time or else they would have been up the street

On the road from 7.20am to 7.45am between south Morningside and the Gyle business park. Followed mostly main and some minor roads as well as the cycle track along the tramline between Saughton and Edinburgh Park Station. For reference I am just over 80kg, an experienced city cyclist but not used to Edinburgh conditions. Without bravado I think I would say the conditions were definitely breezy, gusty at times, but nothing particularly special. No obvious disruption to motor traffic. Closest it came to dangerous was coming down the hill at Gray's Loan towards Slateford Road where a gust would have sent me sideways if I'd been riding with my hands behind my head and focused on practicing my whistling. I was probably 3-5mph slower along the cycle path by the tram tracks because of a headwind but my overall journey time and average speed were barely affected. Strong smell of sewage and a whiff of ennui on reaching the Gyle but that's normal out here.

Equilibrium, we probably do a similar route to the same end point.

I left at 6.45am and it was pretty benign. A lot of bins tipped over due to high winds in the wee sma hours, and only had one dodgy moment when I ran over a traffic cone (!!).

In summary, less windy and cold than all predictions - arrived at work sweating from the extra layer, not exertion.

Home time might hold more amusement though.

I can't wait to get on the bike this morning, going to fly to work. Though the return journey tonight will be different story!

@Cajgflyingv1 It's all weather dependent but we're doing everything we can to reopen as quickly as possible. Will keep you posted.

Bit of an adventure getting in this morning- tested the waters along the coast before deciding the bridge was likely to be closed to bikes and thought I'd be "smart" and get the Glasgow train over to Dalmeny and make my way from there.

Only when getting on train did I hear road bridge was closed following the muppet incident and only when crossing bridge did I become aware how long it could be closed.

Dalmeny to work wasn't without incident - cyclist with puncture, no working pump and no experience of replacing tubes, so stopped to help. A 1 hr journey became 2 and I'm not sure how I'll get the bike home tonight...

I cycled down the canal. No problem, quite sheltered, quite a few cyclists.

Centre of town unusually quiet (was everyone else stuck somewhere else?) and weather calm. Only gusty wind I noticed was down Broughton Street and Bonnington Road where the wind pushed me around a bit.

Was very windy and gusty when walking the dog this morning, so I walked to work instead of cycling. Not so bad now, but still right decision.

    Indeed. To quote:
The bridge was officially closed to HGVs at the time the lorry attempted to cross and a 54-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving...[the lorry] was travelling northbound [but] was blown onto the southbound carriageway and caused some extensive damage to the central reserve grilling.
Idiot driver. He could easily have taken someone else out, though I suppose at 2am the bridge would have been quiet. Must have been pretty scary. Shows the power of the wind.

Two and a half hours to drive from Edinburgh to Dunfermline this morning due to #FRB closure. Absolute chaos on the roads.

'the crane to recover the HGV cannot operate in high winds.'

I now have an image of the bridge completely blocked by a series of increasingly large recovery vehicles.

Wife and I both slept in by about an hour today, no idea how. Had to take the car to work. Was looking forward to fighting the winds! Brought the bike inside from the balcony at 2am, didn't want anything blown about damaging it.
