Wet snow coming back from the pub. Time spent on a bicycle is never wasted, except for when it's wet snowing.

  3. It might be about time CEC spent some of the cycling budget on one of these...

A blast of Caribbean hot air could push Scottish temperatures over that of Menorca, Majorca and Sardinia next week.

Anyone else have fun battling the wind this morning?

I was towing a trailer with a 1m x 1.8m bike box down Bruntsfield path. Some big side gusts. Looking in rear view mirror I noticed one wheel on the Carry Freedom trailer lifting. A slow motion turn over took place. Should be in today's bad cycling. I 'had' to move the box - but that's what HGV drivers say when their vehicles overturn!

Not a nice day. Horrible wet sleet here. The dog didn't want to go out the door this morning, for possibly the first time ever.

Anyone cycled? My colleague who gets to HW early tells me that while some snow was lying, it will all be gone soon due to the slushy rain and that there wasn't any ice anyway. I'm currently planning to cycle...

Yes, just heavy rain and a nasty wind but no snow in town.

Thanks. I'll wrap up and take it slowly.

Just Cycled through Ravelston and Murrayfield. Heavy rain and strong winds. Watch out for flooding and big puddles and getting splashed by other road users. Had a good chat with Hankchief along the way. Always a pleasure.

Just about snow in town now, thickening from ever so slightly sleety rain when I left. It's melting the moment it lands. A fair few cars around with snow on their bonnets.

Wet snow lying in Livingston. Cycled in my waterproof trousers and red cycle cape. With the wind behind me it was OK. Slush on the road does slow drivers down. One rubbish overtake from the driver of a black cab, and one driver managed to spray me with lots of slush - but the waterproofs kept most of it off me, and I have a change of shoes under my desk, so all good.

Going back to the station, which will be into a headwind, is going to be a good deal less pleasant!

Forecast suggesting wind direction will change significantly by then.

Walked in along the BHP, considered the tram but when one went passed with people smushed against the windows I realised I was cold and miserable but still happier than I;d be in a box with 200 close friends.

Craghoppers are nearly dry, underwear still uncomfortably damp...

The only real issue that I encountered, other than wet snow being blown into my face, was reduced braking power due to the sheer amount of surface water. My first attempt at braking at the MMW junction resulted in more noise than stopping. Luckily there weren't many people to avoid.

Colinton very white after overnight snow, but fast turning to slush. It was much colder than I'd hoped and foolishly bare legs were rather cold.

Took the MTB expecting there to be more snow but was just wet in town, so I ended up slogging the MTB along the very wet roads and canal, with a massive headwind. Ace.

Was a horrible ride in this morning. So tired when I left I didn't notice the weather until I was halfway round my driveway. Was woefully unprepared: rubbish clothes, no mudguards. Spent about half an hour in front of the fire at the office. Still at work just now, dreading heading back! Must man up...

Wind had done a 180 and was headwind back again! Awesome. But much warmer

Patches of frost and ice on the towpath today but not too bad. I will have to clean my chain yet again due to Heriot-Watt's over-gritting.

Everything was fine on the Fife side so I didn't take the hybrid with studded tyres, which turned out to be a bad idea.

It was very icy this morning between Dalmeny and Maybury- a lot of black ice- a cyclist who had overtaken me on the bridge came to grief between Dalmeny and the Dalmeny Estate Gate. Was upright, seemed OK and was with a driver/passenger as I went past.

Not me, but as it happens i did unexpectedly lose the back wheel briefly on the rise just after the floodland, around 08:30 hours.
