@bax- that is exactly where it was. Black ice all around there.

The Highlands, Strathclyde, Central, Fife, Dumfries and Lothian and the Borders are all affected.
The Met Office said: “Showers will affect many parts of the UK during Monday, with some continuing overnight and into Tuesday morning, when temperatures will also fall below zero in some areas, bringing a risk of ice.

I was struggling to stay upright as I waited at the lights by the new Boroughmuir High School development earlier on, before proceeding in a wobbly fashion along Dundee Street. The driver behind me waited until after the pinch point to safely overtake me, although a couple of others after that went for slow but unnecessarily close passes so I was glad to be turning left up Gibson Terrace shortly thereafter. I ended up removing my winter jacket and continuing far more comfortably in a T-shirt yesterday and again this morning.

I will go up the wol path again tonight, not too muddy at moment, though it is muddy, just not too muddy.
I will log my route as 22 miles (25 last night) and attribute the encouragement to a certain DP out Heriot Watt way as I saw his name on the list last night.

@gembo thanks! I take it that is for Ride to Work Week? It has a rather better interface than The Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge which Sustrans is also running just now.

Overturned lorry closes Bridge. Again. How come this has happened twice in quick succession?
Posted 7 years ago # -
i'd say its because the penalties for UK drivers ignoring the rules are too lenient to bother abiding by

Similar incidents have led to drivers being banned and doing community service. Would that all dangerous driving had the same consequences!

A large metal bar that can be swung into place would protect the (relatively) fragile bridge, but not save the disruption.

In the BBC picture, you can see the temporary repair on the bridge a bit further along the carriageway, where the previous OLA driver crashed their lorry.

Time to post snipers on the approaches to the bridge.

Wind was absolutely mental out at the Gyle/EDP at lunchtime. I was just about managing 11mph into the wind, and I was nearly late for my train.

Not looking forward to the cross-wind prone return home. Hopefully it will have calmed down a bit

It's not too bad out there now. Pity some cyclists have been running red lights though. That is a bicycle isn't it?

The driver of the lorry which overturned on the Forth Road Bridge in January’s gales has been banned for two years, told to resit his test and fined £1000.
