I'm not saying it's your fault, Iain, but the Met Office issued a yellow warning of snow and ice this morning. Coincidence?

Seems to have stopped falling so heavily but any townies up yet to let us know if it is heavy down at the coast?

I am thinking WoL path and canal and spikes and glove liners on

Twitter photos seem to suggest lots of flurries but not much laying. Going to take the MTB via WOL I guess!

    Last night's news -

    "

Snow and ice will will affect roads in Glasgow and Edinburgh from 8pm tonight until 10am tomorrow, potentially causing challenging conditions for motorists.

The cold spell is down to air coming in from the Arctic, which will bring frequent wintry showers across Scotland and widespread sleet and snow.

At least 1cm is likely to fall in most places, with more than 5cm predicted on higher ground.

Temperatures will plummet, dropping below freezing in many parts and reaching as low as -4C in some places overnight.

Snow up here, strong wind too. Suspect it will be icy in places. Take care.

Wet snow in Livingston. The wind was more of an issue.

Quite unpleasant coming to Livingston this morning. Agree with @fimm that the wind was more of an issue but I am glad I packed dry socks.

Was dressed for the arctic but road was OK, except when cars cut back in after overtaking firing a spray of heavy slush,.

Road then jammed so got bored and went down WoL path, which was fine. No evidence of snow at canal junction

Cycled round to roseburn usual chaos, as on shopping bike, went down WoL path to stockbridge.

The barrier where the path is closed has a big hole in it which allowed stockbridge women runners to run to dean village I saw them going in and indeed coming out so there is no doubt what they were up to. BaCK ON ROAD AT STOCKBRIDGE DOWN TO pILRIG.

qUITE A COMMUTE. Though wind behind.

    Boiling now.

As was down that way went a bought six pastel de nata from Casa Amiga. Mmmmmmm.

Blech. Hail in the face all the way home. Fortunately the big one's waterproof trousers live in his schoolbag, so he was quite happy to bike home.

My waterproofs started giving up 10 min into my cycle from Livingston and I was fairly soaked by the time I got to Mid Calder. Heavy rain with bits of hail in the face as well all the way home. Really looking forward to warmer temperatures.

Mental note. There's no point in owning waterproof shoes if they aren't worn.

@snowy if you were heading east last night in the rain you would have needed waterproof shoes and shoe covers for dry feet?

Heading west I had trainers with a waterproof membrane and slightly wet feet as covers are a faff.

@snowy I did exactly the same thing with my overshoes and my winter gloves last night. I compensated by wearing my overshoes this morning despite the conditions not really being bad enough for them, but they did come in handy to avoid ending up with wet feet when negotiating some of the deeper puddles on the towpath to the west of Wester Hailes.

My ride home yesterday was 'torpedoed' in the sense that I'd only brought my spring/summer/autumn cycling cap and not my waterproof cap. It's always lovely invigorating horrible being shot-blasted in the face with icy rain and the top of your head getting colder and colder. The rest of me was fine!

    @Arellcat

Yes, sodden by the time I got home. Wind, Rain, Hail, Sleet - all right in the face, lovely.

I felt exhausted and freezing by the time I got in.

Lucky you had the torpedo for the rest of you, my shorts and biblongs were as wet as my cap........

Edinburgh experiences the least amount of rainfall per year compared to other Scottish cities and nearly half as much as Glasgow.

Previous weather reports predicted Easter 2017 could be one of the warmest on record, but Scots have now been warned to expect a severe dip in temperature.

    * for a few hours at the dead of night
    * 6-8 deg in the daytime

This is not really the arctic plunge being marketed. Bit of snow up north isn't unusual either.

It is currently hailing heavily at Heriot-Watt.
