    Still quite a lot of people cycling this morning, including a guy in a very nice cycling cape which I was envious of - even more so when I got to work and found the showers out of action due to blocked drains. I suppose I was wet anyway.

    I was cycling up to the pool to go swimming at 7am and when I looked back prior to making my right turn there was another cyclist right on my shoulder; as I turned right there were two more coming the other way; and as I got to the pool another person was also arriving by bicycle.

    I was unpleasantly damp by the time I got to work.

    Looks like quite heavy until most people are at home, then easing off but continuing until tomorrow afternoon!

    Frantic searching for waterproof socks failed, so damp feet. Waterproof trousers leaking at one knee, so damp lower leg.

    Did seem quieter, saw one other bike on along Seafield, another CdF, further proof of their ubiquity.

    We have a 'drying room' at my work which should just be called room as stuff only dries if left overnight.

    My shorts, trainers, gloves and jacket are all lying/hanging about near me as it's always warm where I sit.

    I expect they will be dry or near enough when it's time to go home.

    I was in That Liverpool Tues/Wed and it rained almost non-stop. Yesterday's meeting finished earlier than I expected and I had about four hours before my train. I explored a bit, then sheltered in The Fab 4 Cafe for a long, late lunch and half dried out. Eventually I had to get wet again. The museums all close at 5pm which is rubbish. I ended up wearing all of my extra layers.

    It was only after I'd boarded the VT SuperVoyager at Wigan at about half seven that I got properly warm again.

    And I see it's raining non-stop again. A day to be on the turbo than outside, but I'm too knackered right now.

    Full wet weather gear deployed today - Altura overtrousers and jacket, and Northwave boots. I kept the speed down and the inner layers were bone dry on arrival after 7 miles in torrential rain. However I was let down by headgear - a waterproof cap is now on the shopping list!

    My nose still feels funny from being practically waterboarded from all the rain streaming down my face on the way home.

    It's not the cycling in the rain I mind, that's OK. It's the application of the waterproof suit and the filthy faff of removing, half drying, reapplying and finally drying it.

    Also the fact that motorists go half crazy when their windows steam up a bit. I always think it's like a tank when they shut the hatches and drive straight through folk's houses using the periscope in battle mode.

    Waterproof shoes are a very good idea.

    Agreed, although I haven't found a pair which stay waterproof for more than six months yet.

    @Frenchy

    Salomon seems to be the only brand that keeps water out for more than one summer.

    I'm on something like this;

    For all that "people" grumble about this being a rubbish summer for weather, this is the first severe weather warning thread update in two months. :)

    It was a good spring and so far Autumn good. Seemed to only get above 20 degrees a couple of times in the summer. Almost like we had an Indian spring of a summer then straight into autumn? Jet stream too far south all Sumer or something like that?

    I cycled home last night from work do about 10pm in my shirt sleeves but I was cold

    @rider73, if the bridge is open to traffic but not bikes then yes they run a shuttle. According to the folks on here anyway.

    As it's not currently open to any traffic one assumes the rules will be amended? Given that a cyclist would not be able to tell from traffic flow if it was shut or not due to wind. What's the likelihood of signage indicating closure?

    Run up to bridge on N side was interesting - all crows feet barriers blown over and a single guy out trying to right them. He said they'd been blown over just before I got there. first indication that bridge was closed was when I reached the barrier on the bridge itself. Two trucks were running and I don't think that anyone would have ad to wait more than 5 minutes. Saw about 4 other cyclists travelling in both directions and know of one more who came over after me.

    A lot of leaves and small twigs down between Dalmeny Gate and Cramond Brig. Was a bit more cautious on that stretch.

    Medium tree down on NEPN east of South Trinity Road bridge - passable, but spiky. Council informed.
