On the A701. All A702 traffic is being diverted on to it because of roadworks. It is so windy that it's blowing the car around. Probably a day not to choose to ride a bike along it.

Avoiding tabloids and only looking at Met Office and NOAA National Hurricane Centre.

Winds kick off Monday lunchtime onwards.

Edinburgh is "70% chance of receiving sustained 34 knot / 39mph winds" within the next 5 days (source, turn on probabilities)

If the FRB is closed on the weekend, are there still shuttle buses?

Bit windy up the top of the hill. Tops of the bridges just starting to disappear inside the approaching clouds.

My Facebook friend, The Island of Inishbofin. Bofin to its pals, likes Sally's map too. It is very very windy there now according to Sally's map and indeed the island (south west Ireland)

As well as being mesmerisingly beautiful, if you click on the menu (the word 'earth') you can adjust it to show particulates and other useful information (wave heights might be interesting right now). But mainly I just stare at it

Friend in Belfast sent home early from work. She's quite pleased! No WhatsApp messages from Dublin friends at all today, so I assume they've all been ordered into the bunkers. "Everything" is shut today in the Republic, apparently - schools, colleges, dole offices, courts.

From the BBC reporting of Hurricane Ophelia:

Ireland's Department of Culture has suspended all non-essential activities

I hope somewhere in Ireland there is a production of Hamlet going ahead: "Damnit, if this isn't essential today then I don't know what is!"

Riding in the pentlands yesterday was a bit of a slog as I was unable to carry enough speed into the wind to get through any rough bits. Nice to be out though.

Throughout the course of Monday, wind speeds will continue to rise in the Capital with gusts reaching 46mph by 11pm according to the Met Office.

A yellow wind warning has been issued between 00:05 and 15:00 in the Lothians, with winds expected to reach over 50mph throughout the night and into the early morning.

The storm will die down after 6am according to early Met Office figures but will continue to be felt until the around 17:00.
