    What is this "sun" of which you speak?

    Tree has gone from the NEPN.
    Incredibly wierd ride out east. Conditions wre actually very benign & warm, but the whole sky was dark & felt like the apocalypse was nigh. A brief burst of red sun through the cloud added to the feeling of impending doom. I just set my jaw to a slightly more determined angle and obeyed Rule #5.

    Amber “be prepared” weather warnings covering Dumfries and Galloway, Lothian and Borders and Strathclyde warn of “potential for injuries and danger to life” from flying debris and high waves as wind gusts up to 80mph are expected.

    Very windy in Brora although it has brightened up significantly from near darkness of half an hour ago. It's meant to be better from about 12 tomorrow so plan to hire a bike then for a bit cycling on really quiet roads for a few days.

    @stiltskin,
    same as mine , towards the end - Dalgety bay was like that, but on the edinburgh side of the coast it was grizzly rain, misty and the bridge was windy, but as you say, tuned into a strange "calm"

    Started out nice heading up into the pentlands for a quick loop around the reservoirs and up Maidens Cleugh, but then the wind got up... fast and made it a bit of a slog. Never been blown across the top of the hills so fast though!

    Edinburgh looking very dark as the sun set and lots of low black clouds coming in.

    Two friends in Ireland now have less trees in their gardens than they had yesterday.

    Getting a bit breezy out there.

    Looks like Skye and the Outer Hebrides are going to get it next. I'm awed at how quickly the eye of the storm is covering the ground. It was at Donegal at teatime.

    Still about OK for motorbiking; just been out for an hour and a half. Seafield Moor Road might be a bit debris-strewn in the morning.

    “might be a bit debris-strewn in the morningl

    Looks like the strongest winds in the EofS will be in the middle of the night.

    Guardian reporting L& B covered by amber alert. surprised as BBC weather saying yellow, but check met office, which has indeed upgraded us to amber.

    https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings#?region=dg&date=2017-10-16&regionType=area

    On the other hand, it seems like most of L&B is yellow, according to the map.

    stay safe folks.

    Tree down on cycle path between craigleith and ravelston. Passable if you pick your bike up. And lots of branches to look out for! Current wind isn't too bad.

    Due to the High winds both the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing are closed to deckers.

    No trains running to or from Fife. The bridge might technically be open to bikes but I don't fancy 45mph gusts so I guess I'll have to seek out a bus.

    @Gembo,
    "Fewer trees please, sorry about trees and grammar police"
    Grammar police police says it could be less tree. All those leaves have to come from somewhere after all.

    @amir, Assuming that was a tweet which account did it come from?

    @acsimpson, as in There's a bit less tree there than there was before as all the leaves from it have blown in Gembo's yard? Acceptable. Still fewer trees for no good reason.

    On leaf news, the leaves were back in force the morning. The brown bin is full to the gunnels.

    @chdot, on that big wave, the eejit who stays put remained upright the two who legged t at last minute came a cropper.
