Thanks, It looks like it's too much to ask that they kept up their tweeting of bridge restrictions on their new account. They don't even seem to be putting the details on their home page.

There are some rather excellent photos of the construction available though: https://www.theforthbridges.org/forth-road-bridge/construction-gallery/

"Cyclists need you to reactivate the twitter account at

    https://twitter.com/forthroadbridge

and actively tweet when the bridge both closes to cyclists and reopens to cyclists due to wind speed restrictions.

Many cycle commuters daily have relied on this service over the years to know the current state of play during seasonally windy periods.

We dont care about the combined twitter feed that concentrates on the queensferry crossing and how great the wind shielding is.

    sort it out, please."

Good plan. I have just tweeted both their old and new accounts so hopefully something will be done.

This is my current choice of wind visualisation: https://www.electricitymap.org/?wind=true&solar=false&page=country&countryCode=GB

I'm looking forward to seeing the fossil fuel percentage decreasing over the coming years.

    Thats fantastic!

Funny comparing the UK to Germany, Germany have a much higher installed renewables capacity than we do, MUCH higher, but today their co2 output is higher. Looks like their base supply is coal whilst ours is gas and nuclear. Be interesting to get that in an annual format. Whilst France is basically 80-90% nuke so their immediate impact is much lower just depends if you want to calculate in the potential damage of the long term storage of the waste.

Portugal and Spain have tiny ammounts of installed solar which does seem a bit of a waste.

@steveo toggling the solar power potential is interesting, but unfortunately doing so often hides a lot of the UK :\

Also just noticed the entire EEN article is just a repost of "The Express" whose "forecaster" James Madden is the source of every Express snow/heatwave/flood shock story.

Monbiot wrote about him back in 2015 https://www.theguardian.com/environment/georgemonbiot/2015/apr/09/daily-express-weather-warning-beware-a-shower-of-extreme-inaccuracy

Is JP so desperate for sales they now uncritically republish literal fiction from tabloids?

  14. I suspect there are no journos left at the EEN. Probably have an unpaid intern cutting and pasting articles from other sources. (So many 'stories' in it these days that are just direct pastes of commercial enterprises' press releases - probably have to do that to fill up space. The other tactic seems to be to add single-line pieces, with a photo, to pad the page-count out further).

Glasgow and the West will bear the brunt of the bad weather.

  19. Coldest stretch of my commute was 2.7C between Edinburgh Park Station and Lochside Crescent this morning. Yesterday morning that same stretch was 14C.

I had big scarlet patches of coldburn evident on the exposed parts of my legs when I got out of the showers at work.

The paths and roads at Heriot-Watt are heavily gritted this morning, which seems like their usual over-reaction to a forecast suggesting the possibility of ice or frost.

It is probably just as well that I cleaned my chain for the first time in a few weeks (possibly months) over the weekend, although I'll be having to clean it again soon.

I had to drive today, but ice on windows at Dalgety Bay - car registered 1.0, then 4.0 on QFC and 1.0 again in Edinburgh...i think its supposed to be a little warmer for the rest of the week..

cleaning chains? i never bother, buy a cheap new one for 8quid! ;)

Saw some frosty bits around the Drum estate whilst walking the dog this morning. First time I've seen frost this winter.

Technically it's late autumn... :-) Trees in Abbeyhill colonies haven't shed their leaves yet, it's been so mild up to this point.

Looks set to be cooler for the rest of the week, so frost and ice may start to be an issue.

I almost said "this year", but I knew someone would (rightly) be pedantic about that.

twas a bit wet at the start of the commute today, but at least warm, rain eased by crewe toll.

if a battery on a new light nowhere nears the runtime it should, worth a complaint?/refund? my new front one is supposed to last 2.5 hours on low - today it lasted 45mins from full with 1/4 left. so i assume 1 hour - 50% less!

    Is it lithium?

I bought a new camera recently and instructions said it might take a few charges to achieve 'full' charge.

Initially battery didn't take nearly as many pix as supposed to.

Not sure it does now, but seems to be better.

@chdot thanks for the advice - i've used it for 1.5 weeks now, and rather than getting better its getting worse- out the box it lasted 1.5 hours on low, as above, its down to 1 hour
...its got an 18650 cell in it, charged via usb

edit: i'll fully charge it at work and see how it performs going home tonight, should give me the same result as this morning....
