Paris hit by increasing thefts and vandalism of bike-share scheme.

Wouldn't happen here would it? I mostly see burnt out motorbikes or scooters round my way...

    Here's the key info:

it's in Paris's outlying districts where most theft and vandalism is taking place, with incidents clustering in the relatively lower-income 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements

It's the dead end estates (and nearby areas) where the majority of this is taking place.

Hardly surprising that they're vandalising bikes. These people routinely set fire to their own neighbourhoods.

"These people routinely set fire to their own neighbourhoods."

In a bit of a hurry but here's three friendly raised eyebrows:

    These people?

    and

Would it be better if they were burning other people's neighbourhoods?

    and

Maybe they have their reasons to protest and not many ways to do it.

When you've got nothing to do burning stuff is a great way to pass the time.

    Cheap, too.

Burning stuff is sooooo bad for global warming.

    I predict a riot?

    White riot

    Burning and looting

my daddy was a bank robber and he never hurt nobody he just liked to live that way and he liked to steal your money

Tht last lyric somehow connected to an Internet porn site when I checked it, quite worrying

Yes, the people who are stealing/vandalising bikes. I'm suggesting these are the same people who routinely riot/throw things at police etc.

Would it be better if they were burning other people's neighbourhoods?

I'm suggesting burning down your own neighbourhood is a sign of stupidity.

Maybe they have their reasons to protest and not many ways to do it.

Maybe. Or maybe it's not a protest, it's just a way to start a fight?

I was living in Paris when France won Euro 2000. Lots of people - myself included - went up to the Champs Elysees to celebrate.

After a while, most people went home.

Then a bunch of youths from these estates decided the best way to celebrate would be to start a riot/running battle with the police.

What can one say? Maybe they were protesting against the victory?

Fair enough, gibbo, reasonable point, if you're angry enough to be burning your bus shelter etc, the bikes might be a target too, no doubt. Unrelated, I was interested to read of the computer hacking gang targeting the bikes and of bikes turning up in Mali and elsewhere.
