sorry folks - hard to type

nothing exciting. braked to avoid pedestrian at MMW-NMW intersection.

I wasn't going fast - confirmed by busker, who was among many kind people who helped me out.

Eeeech, that's rubbish news. Hope they gave you the good drugs.

I have any number of spare glasses around, if our prescriptions are at all compatible.

+1 to Dave's offer of ferrying. I shop for food almost completely hand-to-mouth since I hate set menus, even ones I set for myself, so it is ridiculously easy for me to add your shopping requirements to mine, for example.

If you have an irritatingly straightforward household task which becomes impossible due to finger, please get in touch. Jars are a speciality of mine.

Of course it's at times like this that I wonder how and why we evolved the capacity to mend bones.

Even a small brake seriously impairs an individual's ability to feed and protect themselves. I can almost see it working for social animals like humans but solitary animals or flight animals seems more of an issue.

I don't really understand how significant numbers of ancestors broke bones, survived and produced offspring which would be required for this trait to be developed and maintained. I'm not for one minute suggesting that I think an unspecified entity was at work here it just makes me wonder how it came about.

Similarly how and why are peas green all the way through yet they developed inside a pod?

At least the bike is OK.

I find it more weird that some cells don't repair. Teeth, for instance.

Thanks all. Made it in safely on the folder today. Not sure whether I'll ride out to the ERI tomorrow to get my hand looked at...

Do watch those 'yellow' shared surfaces on the meadows though. I'd not mentioned my scepticism about their safety given all the flack we'd heaped upon the rumblestrips. But, they are definitely slippery when wet.

Leaf collector out on MMw though (blocking cycle path!), so maybe they are doing something about the leaf buildup.

On a more controversial note, I do wonder if a helmet might not have protected my glasses/face from the worst of the impact.....

Hi SRD - really sorry to hear about this. Impressive that you made it in by bike today. There was a pretty hefty build up of leaf mulch at the MMW junction yesterday and the surface was pretty greasy, glad to hear the Council is dealing with this.

As with the others, if there is anything I can do to help just pm me.

You do get full-face cycling helmets for mtb that are much lighter than motorbiking ones. Cheaper than dental in countries where they don't have NHS teeth :)

I don't really understand how significant numbers of ancestors broke bones, survived and produced offspring which would be required for this trait to be developed and maintained.

I guess that for almost all of our developmental history, the ability to heal breaks would be tested in many pre-adult individuals. The ones who couldn't heal would have a significantly reduced chance of making it to breeding age?

Conversely, we have a ton of teeth. Two full sets... and even losing the big ones is only a small obstacle when it comes to reaching fertility (with tools, you're not dependent on teeth to eat?)

You can breed rats with great resistance to tooth decay in a few generations, but only by artificial selection. Otherwise we all get teeth that merely aren't a survival penalty :(
