As ever, don't believe everything you read in the EEN (I will remain silent on l'exactitude des chauffeurs de taxi d'Edimbourg)

    Taxi #435

was cajoled into a black cab last night. Zero dashboard electrics working. Not just the dashboard lights, I could clearly see the speedo wasnt moving / stuck at 0.

Black cab and private hire cab MoTs are done by the police garage.

So a year at most until this is fixed.

Taxis get MoTed every six months, I think.

Is it worth reporting to the inspector of such things?

Not so much a case of bad driving today, but extremely poor form. Spotted a man next to his parked taxi relieving himself in broad daylight near to the SKELF pump track.

Did he have a hand touching the vehicle and was he weeing onto a wheel?
I think it's just London where taxi drivers are allowed to wee in public if they meet those criteria. I even once saw a short film during the edfilmfest which showed a London taxi driver doing so.

On what grounds is it less offensive if they're touching the vehicle?
I think this will be more common as more public toilets are closed, but most men pee into a bottle when caught short, surely?

I thought this just applied to lorry drivers - a relic of the horsedrawn days, when public WCs were even less common than today.

Don't know that it was supposed to make it any less offensive other than by implicitly increasing the chance of any evacuatory appendages being exposed in a direction occupied by a large and partially-opaque vehicle. I can't remember where I heard of it (potentially QI) and the film I fortuitously saw it happen in shortly afterwards didn't comment upon it.

Sadly the Law commission has not been able to find evidence of any special provision for micturating taxi drivers.

The thought of them all peeing while ranked illegally outside the Balmoral is quite amusing...

Black cab #20 decided that 24mph down Dundas wasn't sufficient. So tailgated me then pulled along side (way too close), window down, some abuse then a little swerve towards me for good measure before speeding off to the red light.

Might fill in the Police 101 .docx if its a slow day in the office 2moro.

    Black Cab #262

Reg SF67 KRJ on Shandon Place this morning, writing WhatsApp messages while driving down the road with a paying passenger in the back.

Failed to get a clear shot of him on the phone which is a bit of a fail on my part.
