Hi,
Does anybody know where I can find a map of the extension? Or at least let me know where I can enter the path? It doesn't seem to be mapped anywhere I can think of.
I'm looking for a connection coming from the Royal Infirmary or Niddrie, so where between Shawfair and Lasswade Road are entry points?

Entry points are at Shawfair Avenue, the A7 at Danderhall, and Lasswade Road.
Sustrans hope that the Drum Street ramp will be built late 2018. I think they have to work around badgers, which means they can only build it in winter.

For what it's worth Burdiehouse road is similarly impassable. While increasing our Soderberg denominator my 4 year old commented on the amount of snow at Straiton Junction.

The official opening (by Sustrans) of the Roslin to Loanhead railway path extension will be on Tuesday 27th March 10:00 - 11:00

They've started tarmacing the section from Roslin to Gowkley Moss this week. Its going to be utterly impassable on icy days though judging by all the standing water on it this morning. Its also going to be a route with quite a lot of friction with dog walkers/pedestrians/kids going by current chat in the village.

I cycled the bit from Gowkley Moss to Moat View yesterday. It has to be the smoothest piece of tarmac I've ever encountered. Though there were a few thin puddles that may simply be related to the surface not fully cured or being so new and literally shiny.
Is the path to Gilmerton and beyond open for use? I shan't be able to attend the official opening.

Main Roslin to Gilmerton path was nice and clear of barriers the other day :-)
Unmarked speed bumps though are very dangerous (I knew where they were from experience).
I was diverted from Gowkley roundabout onto back route into Roslin from Auchedinny.

Went along this afternoon, it really is incredibly smooth.
Looked to me like the plan at Marmion Avenue is just to use the dropped kerb at the nearest driveway.
EDIT: @LaidBack - Yes, takes you to the Gowkley Moss roundabout, and new paths are planned on the other side of the roundabout to get to the various Bush sites.

I cycled the former NBR's Edinburgh, Loanhead and Roslin branch today, so here's the setup at Marmion Avenue:
I would agree that the nearest dropped kerb is probably sufficient.

The official opening will now be 10am, Friday 15th June, 2018
We will be celebrating the completion of the Loanhead Path Extension – a 3km traffic-free route, delivered by Sustrans Scotland in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council, Midlothian Council and contractors RJ McLeod.
We hope the launch will be a fantastic opportunity for all groups involved to come together to celebrate the extension and develop momentum for phase two of the project as well as for future similar schemes.
The event should be no more than an hour long and will be held on the route, a 10 minute walk from Shawfair Rail Station – EH22 1SE.
More detailed invitations will be sent out closer to the time, however I was keen to ensure to get the event in your diary as soon as possible!

The Lasswade Road-Shawfair section was officially opened this morning, which mostly consisted of kids from Danderhall Primary posing for photos next to their bikes.
Short speeches from John Lauder (Sustrans), Dave Kenny (Midlothian council) and Lesley Macinnes (Liberton/Gilmerton councillor/Transport convener).
John Lauder said Sustrans hope that it will eventually go through Dalkeith Country Park to Dalkeith itself, and that the Buccleuch estate has been positive about this. They also hope to improve the connection to Shawfair station, although they don't know exactly how this will be done either.

This would be nice - I gambled on one being there on Wednesday knowing that it probably wasn't, so ended up having to go down Gilmerton Station Road. A tip if you do the same: don't go through the fence and slide down the embankment in your nice shoes at the first available opportunity as there is a much friendlier gate a little further on!

Presumably the Dalkeith extension would be done via whatever active travel infrastructure is being put in as part of the Sherrifhall upgrade? The last lot of plans looked fairly promising but who knows.

Good point...perhaps the plan would actually be to bypass Dalkeith centre via the country park to get to NCN1? Assuming the Sherrifhall provision is any good, it would seem odd to pay for another arguably less direct crossing just along from it. I'm sure all will become clear one day!

Work should start in the next few weeks (there are already some wee flags in the park marking out where the ramp'll go), and they're aiming to be finished by the end of November.
