I plan on coming along at about 6 ish. I haven't met anyone on the forum (as far as I know) so I guess I count as 'new', even though I have lurked and very occasionally posted for a while now. Looking forward to it.

CCE Ladies: Drinks?

SRD - you beat me to bumping the thread.
Other good indicators of a CCE meet include a prevalence of bikes outside, biking accessories and paraphernalia under/on/around the table/s, and of course the requisite infrastructure discussion (don't think I've yet been to a CCE meet where infrastructure hasn't been mentioned!).
I'm also half expecting at least one person with a body-mounted light to have left it on for a while before noticing. No doubt it'll be me but probably best not to take that as a given and wander around the pub trying to find the person with a blinking red light on her back...

In a remarkable break of character I shall turn up not wearing lycra.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Hope it's not too much of a break of character and that you turn up wearing something other than lycra, Arellcat!

@friskiffla I will also be rolling up at about 6pm on a Brompton wearing a long black coat and a hat with fake fur trim (the cycle chic effect somewhat ruined by a rucksack with a hi-vis cover).
Any suggestions for the best route from Haymarket, BTW?

I think I'll be going Torphichen Street > Dewar Place > Morrison Street > Lothian Road. Probably not the 'best' route but I think it's the most direct?
I'll be coming from Gorgie/Dalry direction though so I won't have to deal with Haymarket tramlines which might be a factor for you, Fimm.

And is there any parking ?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Had a quick check on StreetView over lunch - couple of lamp-posts on Lothian Rd but (if memory serves) there's railings from the corner of Lothian Road up along Bread Street.

Yes, I think I'd decided (after I'd JGI) that was the best route. Cheers, MeepMeep.
I'll just have to (wo)man up and deal with the tram lines. It will be good for me.Posted 11 years ago # -
Peeps, I'm going to have to pass. I'm afraid after today at work I need my bed more than I need a drink. :(

Sorry to hear that arellcat. I was feeling somewhat knackered myself, but now here and very happy.

More 'proper' cycling talk than at any CCE meetup I've been at.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Define proper!!

Commuting, routes, training, panniers v backpacks....
Posted 11 years ago # -
Sounds good.
You'll have to raise the tone at the next PY.

I take no credit. I was just there to drink beer. (Very nice it was too)
Posted 11 years ago # -
Sorry I missed it, just ended up being too late and too tired to come along, hope there will be another opportunity!
Posted 11 years ago # -
Very nice to meet you all SRD, MeepMeep and fimm. Hopefully see you again some time.

Yes, nice to meet you friskiffla and MeepMeep. Nice pub (good selection of ales, which I think was why it was chosen). Sorry for vanishing off, but I did want to make the swim session.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Yes, thank you for the company and conversation all.

Oh boo, really sorry I missed this! Bikeable Jo and I had a Twitter chat the other day about doing a regular(ish) ladies' meet up in the pub or somewhere that does good cake (yum).
Would ladies on the forum be interested if we did a six weekly or bi-monthly or monthly meet up? :) Would love to meet more ladies that cycle in our fair city.
Also gutted I can't make the launch K :( Have a great night and don't covet the Rapha gear too much - that's now my job!

@Claire am definitely up for meeting for cake!
Posted 11 years ago # -
The bestest yummiest cake I ever had was from the cafe at East Fortune aerodrome. Not quite a destination to 'pop over to' I admit (though you can ride there in about an hour in a torpedo).
I would be up for somewhere that does cake with beer/ale/cider optional, since I will tend towards the former, and would only tend towards the lattermost were I on foot and not wheels.

Sadly, I' m on a different end of the spectrum from arellcat. I get lots of cakes at home and doing family stuff. To me, a regular hanging bat or bow bar meetup would be most compelling.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Sorry to have missed this but would definitely be on for another time.

I'm with SRD for a Hanging Bat or Bow Bar meet up.

Cake and beer. Surely there must be a place that exists in Edinburgh to offer this fabulous combo of delights? :)
Posted 10 years ago # -
If one can be found in Edinburgh, I think I might well move out of my house and into this joint of heaven!
A chocolatey porter with a slice of coffee and walnut cake? Oh, so very definitely in for this.
Posted 10 years ago # -
@MeepMeep - well there are various people on here who (at various times) have said they'd like to run a cafe/bar/cyclething...

Check out the Boda Bar group of pubs. You do get some cake. They work hard to be a more contemporary pub with a metrosexual clientele, often but not exclusively in former old men's pubs. we used to go to Joseph Pearce lots and younger colleagues go to Hemma, indeed we have rented the mezzanine for Xmas. They have original Boda Bar, Sofi's, Victoria, Joseph Pearce and Hemma, unless their domination is spreading. Inthink they are all good. Most of them have a higher percentage of women in them than your average bar. I feel this has a positive effect.
However, it could be we are actually looking for a cake shop that sells beer? I see from googling cake shop selling beer in Edinburgh tht the lovecrumbs cAfe at west port had an Innis and Gunn Beer and cake night. Beer matching for cake? Young's used to do a double chocolate porter. Chocolate hops and added chocolate. It was like a mixture of beer and chocolate, unsurprisingly. it did make you drunk tho. Just thought I should make that observation?
