It's probably poor form to advertise one forum on another, but hey!

A number of us Glasgow-based folk agreed a few weeks back that a Glasgow forum would be a Good Thing. The achievements of CCE are well-known; if we can manage even a fraction of that with CCG we'll improve the cycling situation in Glasgow significantly.

I'll continue to flit between both forums, but if you do want to pop by and see what's going on we're here:

    Well done.

    Have fun.

Why did you decide to use phpBB?

    Is CCG on Twitter?

I'd like to say phpBB was decided upon after lots of detailed investigation, but to be honest my hosting company have a one-click-install thing for phpBB; a quick check online showed mainly positive feedback; and it's free.

I do have @cyclingGlasgow registered, but I thought it was probably safer to try and get past the forum baby-step stage first...

CCE has been a great success as you say - every city should have such a forum!

    Good luck.

Good to get it started now. Lots of Glasgow issues that need a forum. Plus a lot of media are there. Well done. Will be watching and dipping in.

It's definitely not in competition with CCE. Hopefully we can work together to make Scotland's cycling safer and have a few beers and cakes at the same time. :-)

I ride out past the bypass every now and again, that's basically Glasgow...

Not sure about beers and cakes "at the same time".

@chdot I knew someone would pick up on that. My money was on @Uberuce!

Beer and cake at the same time http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/chocolate-guinness-cake-3086

Despite living in neither city I shall frequent both fora

If it is a dry spring we should meet up say midsummer morning 21.06.14 at the Falkirk wheel, or indeed in the evening of the longest day? Beer and cake is available in the cafe at the wheel. It is about halfway and if it has been dry an ok cycle. As long as more cake than beer is consumed it is also not too hard to avoid falling in on the way home?

    @gembo I like that idea.
Would it be OK if I mentioned CCG on CycleChat? I like being a member of both forums - CCE gives me local knowledge while CycleChat has more people and a wider range of opinions/posts.

Passing on the link to a number of colleagues in the office from Glasgow, one a self confessed Edinweegie.

    @fimm - CycleChat has... a wider range of opinions/posts

What? No? Surely not? What other forum starts a thread on indicators, ends up braking, but only because of a fridge/freezer that's not working properly?

[ed.general in joke - have you tried Gray's of George Street?]

    Grayzing in George Street?

Edinburgh going to have a Fast Food Festival??

@fimm, please mention away! If we can get enough members through to keep CCG ticking over until PoP3 creates the annual spike in cycling interest then I think it'll survive.

Gembo's idea is excellent. All those in favour raise both hands (whilst I steal their cake)

@chdot Would it be appropriate to link to the CCG fourms on the right hand side?

First might be true. But are you arguing there's too much agreement here? ;-)

    "there's too much agreement here"

Had that argument before. Think someone mentioned bland too.

There are some diametrically opposed views, but (generally) tolerance prevails (well ThisIsEdinburgh).

Irony doesn't always convey adequately on screen, which can cause confusion.

"bland" must be someone who doesn't read posts from gembo and uberuce!

For reasons I don't entirely understand, CCE is super nice compared with all other web forums.

If you don't agree, google Councillor Michael Stanton (who infamously told a disabled constituent with a recumbent that he should go to Dignitas).

    The contrast should be... obvious

"For reasons I don't entirely understand, CCE is super nice compared with all other web forums."

    Serious answer -

It's because a lot of people (including you) contribute thoughtful/useful/entertaining stuff.

It's because some people (especially you - sometimes) contribute controversial stuff that gets argued with/against in a civil (non-flaming) fashion.

There have been (rare) occasions when people have gone 'too far' (for whatever passes for the CCE collective consciousness) and been digitally jumped on.

It's also impressive the number of people who have changed their views/opinions after reading stuff on CCE and been prepared to admit it.

Of course I seldom look at other forums so don't really know what happens 'in the real world'!

Things have been bubbling away on the Helmets thread.

Think last one that really got out of hand was the Pope's visit...

    Ahem.

CCG is back*, for those who spend some time on the west coast ( http://citycyclingglasgow.com ).

*Well, it never really went away, but the software was an absolute pig and the admin somewhat distracted. We now have new admins, new software, and a generally shiny orange look.

I can also confirm the link to CCG on the sidebar is working well.

Interestingly, it's blocked by BT's Parental Controls. What have you got on it?

Clearly (as I am the parent with the control here) I can unblock it, but if BT are blocking it then you may find it's also inaccessible from work for some people.
