Is that stretch of path officially open? If it wasn't, I suppose they could justify the sign being where it is.
The rain also nicely illustrates the waviness in the surface.

I can confirm they've just laid a new surface on South Gyle Road at Gylemuir School and it's got no camber and water is already pooling on it like a cycle path.

The standards for horizontal road geometry, including camber, haven't changed in over 20 years - and probably far longer. That's just when that section of the standards was last revised.
I suppose it could be blocked drains, but more likely to be some kind of foul up by the contractors - which seems to be this week's recurring theme.

I walk by the Buccleuch street section twice a day and can verify it is already being used a fair bit, both by people cutting through Gifford Park and people biking southbound on Buccleuch street, particularly when, as is often the case, vehicles are parked in the carriageway cycle lane.
Most people are not picky connoisseurs of cycling infrastructure, they are simply happy to be free of cars/vans/trucks if even for a hundred yards.

The ramp from the carriageway on Gifford Park onto the newly-surface passage leading to Clerk Street is now in place. But the carriageway on GP is still covered in builder's kit and fenced off (as of this am anyway).
Last piece of the puzzle is the Rankeillor Street/Clerk Street works and they are making progress.

@paulmilne glad to hear that it's already being used in spite of my semi-skeptical musings previously. I wonder if the contractors are viewing the installation of this infrastructure as a 'puzzle' - that might explain a lot!

Update from the team behind the new layout on my concerns raised about the stop lines being so far back...
They're looking at alternative options to assess them. The preferred solution will be implemented. End of message.

As of lunchtime today, Rankeillor Street/Clerk Street jnct nearing completion. No poles or lights up yet, though, at this crossing.
Sick to see Buccleuch Street track end at the Meadows crossing instead of extending to main junction with an innovative waiting area/bicycle-only light sequence, though :( I know that was not the brief, but seems like a wasted opportunity!

I rode along it at the end of June with Critical Mass. Astoundingly bumpy at a touch above walking pace. Ridiculous.

Funny how different folks will feel things differently isn't it? As I mentioned upthread I had no problem with the surface, maybe slightly uneven; whereas others can find it astoundingly bumpy. Critical mass using a cycle path seems a little defeating-the-purpose no?

It was just remarkable given that the road beside it is not bumpy. They need to invest in a narrow steam-roller. We felt obliged to ride it with Critical Mass, as, you know, it's a bike lane and all (all 50m of it or whatever it is).
Rather than go into CM here, I'll start another thread on it.

I took a detour on the way home yesterday to ride up and down this a couple of times - just to reassure myself that I wasn't imagining how bad the surface was. It seems that the bumpiness is variable, depending on which line you take. My first run seemed quite smooth, the second pretty bumpy. Seems worst on the lane next to the road.

he has advised us that four locations have been identified for remedial works at Bruntsfield Place, one of which is at the Viewforth junction. The work is programmed for w/c 14 September.
It is worth noting that roadworks in this area, unless designated as emergency works, are suspended until 6th September due to the Festival embargo.

So what is the "correct" route from the Innocent tunnel to the Meadows? Are the roadworks still blocking the route, and the path not opened yet?

Bit near police station useable. Rankeillor St - use pavement at Clerk Street end. Same to get Gifford Park which might be closed - unlikely as main work done. Buccleuch St. 'finished'.

Just walked by Buccleuch street, Gifford park, then left on Clerk street.
Buccleuch street: needs lights switched on.
Gifford park: carriageway unusable because using it as a works yard. Cyclists can push or ride along pavements (I've seen both). I was wondering if they are going to upgrade the footpaths, which are in a shocking state.Clerk street: looks like footpath and cycleway are substantially done apart from some edges. Still no poles or lights erected yet.

Slightly ironic that the mural will be finished before the route is 'open'.
Due to take about a week.

Ok, I was wondering what was happening with those walls being re-plastered!
Er, but won't the bins being moved back in pretty much block a good part of the murals? Bins can't live on Clerk street forever.
Still, good to see the route approaching completion ... like a snail trying to cross the finish line.

The path seems more or less open now, apart from some cones around the crossing on Clerk Street. Only thing lacking is operational lights at the crossings.
No idea what is happening further along Hermit's Croft where the path runs up to the tunnel entrance. I couldn't make much sense of the plans on the Cooncil website, and I haven't walked up there for a few weeks now.

That's all nicely coloured in, just awaiting the details now. Rode the length of it today (east to west), and there are good and bad bits.
@paulmilne, I think the tunnel to Hermit's Croft is simply staying as it is - using the road, and the little cut through path, and to be honest I think that works fine.
The markings at the east end are just all over the shop - I'm not sure how else it could have been done, but entering the cycle lane, and then immediately having a give way line (for pedestrians) is just messy, then there are the obvious problems with the various junctions and sightlines.
The crossing into Rankeillor Street feels odd. Good that we'll have lights, then there's a 90 degree right, 90 degree left almost immediately, and then re-join the road. Again, no sure how else to do it, but it's a strange motion. Coming from the west I can't see why you'd cross onto the short section to the lights, to hit those and wait to get out, when you could ride up to the junction, and probably get a break in the traffic more quickly (possibly not at uber busy times of course), but it does require you to cross the lanes just before a junction, and is a bit unsuitable.
But the crossing to Gifford Park is going to be SO much better! Just a straight crossing. Have to watch for pedestrians walking, but that's entirely fair.
At the bottom of Gifford Park, heading west, there's too much of a kerb on the join into the bike lane (especially given you're executing a 90 degree left turn) so that'll need to be sorted.
And I can see where people are coming from on the bumpy surface. Doesn't overly trouble me (and wouldn't stop me using it), but yes, could be smoother.
Oh, and I know it's not officially open yet, but seriously, three roadworks sign slap-bang in the lane when it looks to all intents and purposes like it's open and people are going to be using it?

They ought to paint the mural over the bins as well - blend them in a bit.
