This is the proposed pump/skills track at St. Leonards.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Good news!
That is excellent. The future must be facilities that are local (and cyclable) rather in distant locations.
Is cyclable a word?
The Skelf needs as many people as possible to complete its survey (by Friday).

(Just got agreement the eadline will be extended to midday Monday btw)
Things are moving!
There was a site visit today as the first stage in the process of producing the main feasibility report which will be done by Architrail.
There was also a serious discussion about improving the adjacent walk/cycle route between Dumbiedykes and The Innocent.

Skelf-Expression
Fri 20th June
10-2pm
Crags Sports Centre, 10 Bowmont Place, EH8 9RY
An exciting bikepark proposal for Edinburgh's Southside is lifting off with an inclusive event aimed at local school children.
Conceived by Braidwood Bikepark Group in 2012, the idea for theSkelf has grown into a combined short mountain bike track and pump track with skills loop. Nestled in amongst the woods, it's situated between Dumbiedykes, and the Crags Sports Centre near Holyrood Park.
We're launching Skelf-Expression during the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling all part of National Bike Week. The event begins at 10am with activities targeted at local school children before we light the BBQ and take to the tracks, culminating in loads more cycle inspired action. Thanks be to the good people at Activcity for making all this possible!
We're also launching a crowd funding campaign with lots of really amazing opportunities to benefit from a range of goodies & awesome experiences; getting your bike serviced, going on a backwoods explores of Glentress through to putting your own name the gnarliest berm on the steepest dip on the biketrack.
For more information on activities for schools, contact skelfbikepark@gmail.com
match-making
We're really excited to say that the guys from Architrail (who brought us the London2012 and Glasgow2014 course in Cathkin Brae have agreed to work with VeloSolutions to create a top class design for us to build the track. Check them out!

Was something on this on Radio Scotland just now. Funding for Braidwood trails. Sounds like good news.
that's good news!
That's great.
Will be good for local primary schools, Cub Scouts, etc. Just across the park from our area...

Linked to the idea of building a bike storage facility at The Crags, these activities could position the Skelf as a hub of mountain bike activity in Edinburgh’s City Centre.
"
Sounds promising. I noticed that the adjoining section of woods further south towards Arthur's Seat had been tidied up significantly when I walked by recently and wondered if it was anything to do with SKELF, but it would appear not based on the plans in the FAQ PDF.
What with this and the proposed trail centre in the Pentlands, my decision to acquire a MTB earlier this year is looking increasingly like a sensible decision.
Good news. Handy for the Cycle Service too!
Latest news!

After years of conceiving, applying and devising, we have finally been granted planning permission for the bikepark!
However, before we go popping the champagne corks, there is a relatively tight window to get the site prepared. So consider this as a call out for potential volunteers. And the date for your diaries is.
Sunday
21st February
10am-2pm
Our intention is to clear out the underbrush and take out some of the scrawnier trees. Who knows we may even replant a few. Please bring protective gloves if you have them plus any tools and materials you consider appropriate. Although we can't promise favourable weather on the day, we will provide soft drinks and refreshments for those prepared to get down in the dirt and dig a bit.
If you do such things there's also the Facebook and Twitter pages. Feel free to head over, 'like' us, 'follow' as you see fit. Very much looking forward to seeing you on the day.

I just came across the following petition that had been posted on Facebook by somebody I know who lives nearby:
https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/our-green-space-versus-bike-park-takeover-1
I'm assuming that the consultation for SKELF wasn't just on display at the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying beware of the leopard, but some people are clearly unhappy.
There's an FAQ here that puts the Skelf's perspective. I'm not involved with them at all, but if it's to be believed then they did a bit more than just put it in a locked filing cabinet.
It seems a bit like the 20mph thing: people don't seem to realise that when you are asked to comment on something, you have to comment on it. You can't ignore it and then complain later that your views weren't considered. The trouble with 'social media' is that it's very easy for people to whip up an apparent storm of objection. We, our elected representatives and their officials need to become used to dealing with it and treating it appropriately.
The 20mph demo showed how much real feeling there was on that subject.
PoP, similarly, shows how much real feeling there is on that subject...
@Greenroofer I suspected as much, but thanks for the link which I have posted in response on my friend's timeline...
Are they really laying Tarmac? Seems unlikely for mountain biking trails.
On Facebook I inadvertently called the Cockburn association a rude word due to predictive spelling.
The whole objection is totally mental. The area has been waste ground since I were a student in1987. Rubbish, syringes etc. There is a very nice green space directly across the road. This is dog walkers not wanting to pick up kaakaa
@jdanielp there's a bit more on the other SKELF thread here http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=16063#post-212882
Honestly, I looked at all the documents on the council website. There's been a tree survey, a wildlife survey, an archeology survey, loads of consultation, and it got planning consent, and then one or two lazy assed people kick off and claim there's been no consultation. What do they want?
I've no particular interest (at the moment) in what this park will deliver, but anyone can see it will turn a skanky unloved bit of scrubland into a real asset for the local community.
"There is a very nice green space directly across the road."
Perhaps they should be petitioning for better pedestrian access to said green space?
"Perhaps they should be petitioning for better pedestrian access to said green space?"
There is a pretty direct route through the SKELF area and then down the paths straight into Holyrood Park. The SKELF project will make this route a lot more pleasant than it is now.
Hi,
Angus from the SKELF project here .
The petition is essentially classic british nimby-ism cynically dressed up as a campaign to 'save our green space'.
The steps we have taken to consult over the last 4 years go way way beyond the minimum required by the planning process.
Summary here:
This is a great wee project, bringing a genuinely groundbreaking new urban bike play space to Edinburgh.
We could really use some vocal support right about now.
If you can, please drop by the Skelf Facebook page and show your support: https://goo.gl/mq0FBq
Alternatively you could always drop by the 'Stop Skelf bike track' Facebook page and share your thoughts there!

I wrote what I think was a reasonable letter on the petition forum page, which has 297/300 signatures, appears some people will sign anything? However, the comment I wrote is subject to admin or maybe buried in the comments. It does not appear but I will try to share it and see what happens
It's there @gembo under Visitor's Posts.
Good letter.
