I hadn't seen this before: play back your commute and see who everyone else was (and where they were going)...

    Pretty neat?

No, not seen that either. Play it back in combination with your camera to potentially see who those people are that you see on a daily basis.

Is this a premium feature? I can't find it.

    Edit: found it now.

It's a labs feature which I don't think are linked from the main site. if you go to labs.strava.com/flyby/ you can enter your activity ID

So can we get everyone at PoP to log their ride on Strava and see the massive number of people moving on the map together?

Someone posted a link to the Merse and Moors playback last weekend. The riders are quite bunched up, more that I would have expected. Apart from one who does a flier off the front and reaches the arrivee at the same time as I was sitting down to fish and chips at the Black Bull in Duns.

    Exactly what I was thinking!

It's a dangerous feature, in terms of me wasting time on it. I just played back my commute from last night and could see myself crossing paths with a cyclist and a runner at the junction of the Maybury Road and Queensferry Road. Play back the GoPro footage, and yep, there they are. Scary.

Despite the fact that relatively few people will have logged their ride to Strava yet, it's already pretty sweet. Seeing all the people coming from all the different directions, congregating in the one spot, then slowly heading off on the same route - I mean, I know we all just did it, but seeing it speeded up on a Strava map is pretty cool :)

As more people add their ride to Strava, they will appear in the list on the left but without a checkmark, so (stating the obvious) you'll need to check any missing boxes to see all the people.

Shoutouts to Mark Nixon who in spite of the rally continued to do laps of Queens Drive

There appears to be at elast a couple of folk doing laps for the duration. As well as a number of riders heading out of town. There is a notable reduction in cycle activity in the city once the protest begins:

Is it just me, or is this feature currently broken? Seems to be sitting attempting to load with no end in sight...

    [ later ]

It's working again. Nothing to see here.

So i'm checking out strava for the first time and i'm being awarded "third fastest time" medal for a segment, despite keeping a leisurely average pace of around 16mph.

Yet when I view the leaderboard its not actually the case at all, i'm nowhere near third place for the segment.

Is this a known issue? Perhaps it means to say "third fastest time of the day"? Confused.

That's probably your own third best time. That shows as a medal symbol.

A leaderboard 'best time' has a trophy/cup as a symbol.

I had that situation yesterday, pitch dark on some random path so I was going relatively slowly as I knew rabbits were likely, yet got 5th best time overall. Tempted to go back in daylight now...

I picked up 5 pbs on my way home tonight. 4 of them were going through Dalmeny so I must be fitter than last year.

Not sure if this feature does me any favours, but you can now get a segment leader board showing the weather at the time of the ride. I.e. how much of a tailwind you got.

    spinloose.co.uk

Not unexpectedly most of my high positions are when I had a tailwind. What's interesting is how many others also had a benefit and those that were into a headwind.

I'm currently using MapMyRide, is Strava any better? At the moment I get details of elevation, average min and max speed, times per km and a few challenges (eg, up the hill to KB). Does Strava bombard you with adverts to upgrade?

It doesn't bombard you with ads. Watch out for the notification settings if you join any groups.

I switched from Mapmyride to Strava as I think the functionality is superior plus a lot of friends and clubmates are on it and it can be fun comparing against each other.

Do you need to be a premium user?

Works fine for me. No need to be premium. Try this

Posted this on the Garve page, but have added it here for additional visibility.

I'm trying to get a list of the ride names for everyone that has done a specific segment. Particularly looking for ones that signify they have had a bad day. i.e. "ouch"

Anyone know of any tool that can do it?

    TIA

    This any good?

Scroll to the bottom of the leader board and look for names.

If you can find a way to get from segment to activity name/description, it should be possible to write a script to do this

sadly I couldn't see any way of getting from the strava segment leaderboard to more details on the activities themselves. I guess that this makes sense.

In case anyone else is playing around I used this https://gist.github.com/chrisfleming/5ddbb6322076c916e45b344cb2f4418b to get a list of all the current times for the segment.

The Strava API is here in case I've missed something?

DetailedSegmentActivity has an Activity field that seems to link to an activity id - worth having a look at?
