a response from the PCC to my complaint about the daily Mail picture which showed two kids cycling in traffic to illustrate a story about two kids cycling on the pavement:

I write further to your complaint against the Daily Mail’s article of 5 August “Couple threatened with social services because their children ride bikes to school.”

Subsequent to the receipt of your complaint, the matter was referred to the Commission for its initial consideration. Following comments expressed by the Commission, the office contacted the newspaper to inquire as to whether it would be minded to remove the photograph in question from the online article.

I am pleased to inform you that the newspaper agreed to the proposed action, and the article has since been updated – a link to which is included: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1291970/Couple-threatened-social-services-children-ride-bikes-school.html .

In the circumstances, I should be grateful if you could indicate whether you view the remedial action taken to constitute a satisfactory resolution to your complaint?

As you may be aware, the advantage to resolving the complaint in this way is that a summary of the matter is published on the PCC website.

I look forward to hearing from you, within the next seven days, if at all possible. Please do feel free to give me a call if there is anything you would like to discuss, or if I can be of further assistance in this matter.

But why did the Mail not take it down immediately when they received my complaint?

"But why did the Mail not take it down immediately when they received my complaint?"

    Well

    let me think

    Gender?, Nationality?, transport choice? complainer?

Or just because the DM never makes mistakes??

  5. Pretty much. The Mail isn't going to do something on the basis of a complaint from a member of the public (remember the awful Stephen Gately article and the furore and the DM hardly shifting, then the PCC going all toothless?).

Surely the only satisfactory response from the PCC would be to ensure the immediate closure of the Daily Mail, the burning down of its premises and the incarceration of all its editorial staff?

To be posted on the PCC website:

    "Daily Mail

Dr Sara Dorman complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article about a couple who allowed their children to cycle to school along the pavements had misled readers by including a photograph of two children cycling on a road.

    Resolution
The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the photograph from the online article. (Cl 1)

CCE makes the news again (well maybe it was SRD).

"Following a public complaint, the PCC managed to wrest a picture deletion from DailyMail.co.uk"
