"White Eagle" Polish minimarket at Abbeyhill also indulges in the pavementhog technique, also generally around rush hour.

Royal Mail van parked on ZigZags.
I've been seeing a lot of comments about poor driving standards by them recently.

Health chiefs have backed the business case for a £10million car park which could end the misery of visitors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The NHS Grampian board yesterday discussed the budget for the six-storey building at the hospital, which is being made possible thanks to a £10.7million donation from Sir Ian Wood’s charity The Wood Foundation.

Clearly ignoring this sign en masse. Now that parking in centre of road on George IV has been sorted a new 'parking where I please' front has opened. Trend started with one or two cars and now is everywhere - restoring the Grassmarket to its historic purpose.

A friend of mine amuses himself by walking very slowly down the middle of the "road" in front of cars ignoring the pedestrian zone in the Grassmarket.

    independent "news" police-issue-parking-tickets-while-families-go-sledging-in-picturesque-brecon-beacons

It's a shock police enforce law against bad parking story. (with beautifully ironic vox pop suggesting that the thing that the area of natural beauty really needed was lots of big car parks)

Was up in Pentlands on Sunday, and parking was pretty feral, especially anywhere near Hillend. No hint of polis action.

No Picture, but there's a Police van completely blocking the path at Gogar. No easy way past as it's at the top of the hill with a nice steep grassy slope down to the dual carriageway.

"[more parking] could end the misery of visitors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary"

I'm willing to bet that learning your friend or family member has been hospitalised is the cause of more misery than parking bays.

We were walking through a very quiet New Kirkgate yesterday in Leith to be confronted with a BMW 5 Series that had "got lost" and was driving around the pedestrian area looking for a way out...

Someone posted on Twitter a picture of a car being parked in the pedestrian area of Castle Street on Saturday, with the comment "owner looks familiar".

The owner looked to me to bear a very strong resemblance to an ex-MSP frequently seen haranguing passers-by with a loudhailer on Princes Street, but I'm sure that he wouldn't park so inconsiderately.

    @Stickman think you mean this one;

Looks rather like Colin Fox, doesn't it? Surely someone in the SSP doesn't drive a Merc?

It does a bit but the photo is too small to tell. I would be very surprised if he drives a merc!

  15. I see you can park on the grassy areas where we hold POP at Holyrood without fear of punishment these days.

Just claim to be an Independence Vigil member and you can drive around the grass, churning up the surface and parking there without let or hindrance. Smashing!

in some cases, drivers were unable to see the yellow lines and paid at the meter.

You know that growl that Marge Simpson makes when she's frustrated with Homer?

"We were used to there being a row of pay-for spaces and a row of permit spaces, so I’m not sure when exactly this would have been implemented."

More motorists assuming that you can drive relying solely on previous experience.

I think they've had their eviction notice served, so may not be there much longer?

On the "car free" Roseburn Place this evening a car sped over to park facing the wrong way on double yellow lines. Hazard warning lights were on and driver on mobile so all ok.

Of course this is the safe, quiet car free route to NCN1.

Several drivers helping themselves to some "free" parking at the Royal Infirmary by parking on the inside of the double yellow lines on Little France Drive. If the link works, they were just on the left here, on the red bit.

This one upset me in particular because it was completely blocking the entrance to the Dalry/Telfer subway path.

What a silly place to park. A bike or pram could come out of the path and accidentally damage the car.

There isn't a "Today's perfectly legal parking" thread, so I'll stick this here...

I've just been shouted at by someone for daring to park legally in front of their house. I explained that she didn't own that bit of road, but she told me it was very annoying that people parked there.

I suspect much of her problem is that I'm just a pleb from the flats on the main road (where there is no parking) and she lives in one of the big hooses on a side street.

Anyway, I won't be driving again for a while, so she can just get used to seeing my car from her living room window for the next week.

Four things double-parked in the cycle lane in the bit of Leith Walk southbound on Albert Place. I wouldn't usually be that far to the left of the bus lane but was only doing about 8mph into the wind so had moved over a bit.

Years ago I rented a room from a colleague in Belfast - his neighbours were like this, the strip of road in front of their terraced house was THEIRS as far as they were concerned. He found nails positioned under his front tyres one time he dared to be slightly past the imaginary dividing line. I suggested he knock on their door and tell them that someone had tried to sabotage his car and he'd reported it to the police, and that they might want to keep an eye out themselves in case the culprit struck again...

"So....the driver has been given a ticket every couple of weeks since 2010 and has already paid almost £10,000. That means that he or she is not ignoring the tickets and in trying to run a business is falling foul of the wardens in an area which is incredibly difficult for parking. The council should be trying to make it easier for businesses to go about their everyday activities without the added burden of parking fines, and my sympathies are firmly with Acanthus."

Well that's one way to look at it.

StreetView shows a van outside this shop with its rear doors open, presumably loading. Would be interesting to know if the tickets were for "loading" becoming "parking".

Profits must be good in the over-priced unnecessary home furnishings business if they can pay out that much in fines just to save putting their goods on a trolley and pushing them the short distance from somewhere they wouldn't get a ticket (like 15m up the street on the other side of the bus stop, on the single yellow off-peak).

Anyone know where to find the response to the FOI request which showed this?

Edit: found it on the Council FOI disclosure log. Doesn't give details of individuals, so must have been some journalistic digging to find out the identity of the main offender.
