Chap in branded van parked on zigzags on approach to pedestrian crossing. I should probably have stopped and taken a photo.

The chump who has been leaving their dark-coloured Range Rover (or equivalent) at the end of the cycle lane on South Gyle Crescent where it links the Crescent proper and Redheughs Avenue from the Broadway roundabout.

Haven't been able to take a photo yet as the three or four times I've now seen it left there during the day, I've been without a camera, but is here:

Have just been tweeting DFS about their great big delivery lorry parked on double yellows on Nicolson St just north of Surgeon's Hall this AM - no driver in cab. I do love being pushed out into traffic by "I'm delivering so the rules don't apply to me" vans...

To their credit they have already replied asking for a DM with info to follow up. (I think I had the first part of the reg, BNII or BN11 - one day I will work out how registrations work...)

Van parked on the north side of Roseburn Terrace. May or may not have been loading, but it was definitely facing the wrong way. Hazard lights on makes it all ok.

unhurt: believe that's (irritatingly) legal if it was after 9.30am(?) - see blurry photo of sign: https://goo.gl/HtAJZx

Brief stops for loading are permitted on double yellows during certain hours if there's single stripes on the kerb.

Definitely before 09:30 as I was at my desk by 9 (for once!)

@MeepMeep That's an interesting one. Really dangerous place to park.
According to streetview there are no yellow lines just on that particular section. The other nearby bits of cycle path come equipped with yellow lines.
So if it's still like that, it looks like a line-painting oversight. There are 'no stopping at any time' signs on lampposts but they are quite far away and without yellow lines or kerb blips, the chump could probably claim they didn't need to look for restriction signs.
Worth reporting along with a photo of the offending vehicle to illustrate the danger - possibly a fixmystreet job?

@meepmeep "The chump who has been leaving their dark-coloured Range Rover (or equivalent) at the end of the cycle lane on South Gyle Crescent where it links the Crescent proper and Redheughs Avenue from the Broadway roundabout."

I was passed by a dark BMW 4X4 just approaching the roundabout this morning, it passed me on the outside (so was in lane for straight across or right turn) but turned left across me anyway into South Gyle Crescent, then quickly pulled across infront of me and stopped right where you describe.

I thought at first they wanted to have a go at me, but as I went past noticed the drivist staring down, as if at a phone or a notebook. Didn't think much more of it than "typical BMW driver", but just checked out the window and they are definitely parked there now.

There are indeed no double yellows on the lane here, but there are on the road immediately after. The application of double yellows around the roundabout and its slip roads is a bit hit and miss, but I'm of the opinion there should be double yellows on all the exits to prevent parking. I'll fix my street it anyway and request that the lines (or absence of) are reviewed.

    EDIT - FMSed now https://www.fixmystreet.com/report/765712

kaputnik isn't wrong that the DYLs are messed up around there - on Streetview I puzzled over the lines in the outside lane of S Gyle Broadway, online musings like this would suggest that's messed up/unenforceable too.

Kaputnik - yes, I saw it parked yesterday evening on way out of the South Gyle estate and am confirming it is a black BMW 4x4. With the rain hammering down I didn't stop to confirm reg number or take a photo.

Good to learn that you can FMS apparent road marking anomalies in addition to pot holes. The driver's parking in that position sets what is arguably a rather dangerous precedent.

Unless the double yellow's have been incorrectly painted then it could take a long time to get new ones as I have been told they require a TRO, even in places such as junctions where parking is dangerous. The council can paint white courtesy lines in front of dropped kerbs or similar though if parking there is problematic.

Operators blasted the plans as “preposterous”. Cecile Picot-Muir, of Edinburgh-based Creative Travel Connections, said: “To charge all operators £200 per coach coming into Edinburgh Airport and hoping their clients pay those astronomical parking bills is simply an incredible decision.”

Not very rubbish, really, just a typical example of how people choose to park.

These cars are parked on Sliverknowes Road, just down from the golf club. The occupants are in the woodland on the right, doing some kind of clear-up / conservation thing.

It is a nice wide road (30mph speed limit), you could easily leave all four wheels on the road; but no, everyone puts two wheels on the pavement. Now I admit that it was a nasty chilly morning in February, and the pavement wasn't exactly packed with wheelchair users, parents with buggies and toddlers on balance bikes; but still...

    Total example of sheep!

Unless organiser of "some kind of clear-up / conservation thing" told them to.

Any idea who was doing it?

Some people seem to believe that this is how cars are to be parked and can't conceive of doing it any other way. When you park, you park on the pavement - regardless of how wide, narrow, busy or quiet the road is.

I've no idea who was doing it. I half expected to be asked why I was taking photos, but I don't think they noticed me - the chap in charge was talking to them all when I stopped, and then when I went past again they were all spread out chopping away at stuff.

The other thing, of course, is that the car park at the golf club was two thirds empty. I didn't see any signs about "Parking for golfers only" - it is an Edinburgh Leisure club anyway I think. And there's plenty of parking down at the prom (though that would have been busier earlier because of the Parkrun).

I didn't get a photo of the cars I spotted parked in a mandatory cycle lane this weekend so here are some similar ones Google spotted:

@Erob. The chap in the red car seems to have solved the problem though:

Noticed it every afternoon last week on my way home too. Between that one and the Merc estate parked every day on the double-yellows by the ISD Scotland car-park on S Gyle Crescent (despite already getting ticketed at least once in the last week), there are two brass-necked drivers working in the area!

A spokeswoman from the Edinburgh based charity said yesterday they were “deeply disappointed” to see the images.

She added: “We take the issue of accessibility extremely seriously and such inconsiderate parking is completely unacceptable.

Black Mini SL62 VCK, the driver of which has been using the new double yellows on Ogilvie terrace, just at the entrance to the canal, as their own private parking space for the last three weeks or so.

Seems immune to being ticketed - perhaps 'cos its displaying a blue badge.

    @Chug Apparently in England&Wales there's a 3-hour limit on blue-badges parking on double-yellows, but in Scotland there's no time limit. http://www.gov.scot/Publications/2007/03/28155511/1

However the exception is if an obstruction is being caused, as it sounds like it might be. A query to the council along with an illustrative photo might hopefully result in a polite word from the council to the badge holder.

@Snowy I didn't know about the time limit not applying in Scotland. I thought they were just trying it on. It's not quite an obstruction, but one parked car does tend to multiply as the sheep arrive (and often get a ticket!)
