@chdot, really??! That's yet another route I now can't use with the torpedo.
The eastern barricade is completely anti-bike. I fail to see how cyclists of any sort can ride through carefully.

Certainly very odd.
There can't be that many cyclists who go that way.
And there really aren't too many people walking there who don't use the pavements - not least because there are quite a lot of vehicle movements inc taxis and large old people movers.

They wanted to add 'No travellers, gypsies, blacks or Irish' but were advised this was illegal.
They missed a trick by leaving out 'No hawkers, door-to-door salesmen, charity collectors, Jehova's witnesses.'

I'm surprised they didn't build a wall and ask all those outside it to pay for it - seems to be de rigueur at the moment.

These are the same people who planted lots of jaggy shrubs in the border facing Canaan Lane to stop P1 and 2 children running along the little wall on their way to the South Morningside infants annexe.

I swung by Brunswick Road yesterday. This cut through is currently almost completely blocked by a couple of shipping containers, which really don't show up in the dark.

Falcon Court appears to be a public road. As such, I wonder if the use of these signs and planters have been approved by the council.
Low level planters are a problem as people aren't really looking out for them and they would be difficult to see in the dark. I had also thought that the guidance was that bollards should never be linked to each other which is the case with one of the signs and the signs might not be so visible from the back when it is dark.
Does this arrangement not also cause problems for users of mobility scooters?
I lived around the corner from here for 6 years and never went through that way on my bike or saw anyone going through there on a bike so would agree with chdot that there can't be that many cyclists who go that way.

You are right, davidsondave, that sign between the bollards is potentially dangerous.

@edd1e_h that is terribly sad.
My Dad broke both his arms and a couple of ribs cycling into one of these at night:
there is no street lighting there - I can confirm they are virtually invisible in the dark.

So are the residents liable for any injuries which occur to members of the public using this road? If so it would seem a bit daft to put something in place which increases the chances of injury.

The bollards on Waterfront Avenue have now been removed due to complaints from locals. They were there to protect people from cars/parking.

Leith's bronze pidgeons have large concrete cousins in Tallinn, Estonia which act as bollards at certain spots on the edge of the old town, blocking access by motor vehicles while allowing pedestrians and bicycles through. They could be pidgins or arctic terns. I liked them a lot!

Was just about to post this.
So judging by Street View, some selfish gits drive down the footpath AND bike lane and block the pavement to park outside (presumably) their residence. Collapsible bollards seem an entirely sensible of guaranteeing emergency access. How's a fire engine supposed to get past the current illegally parked cars?
