The chicanes on the Magdalene path, here and here, have been replaced by bollards. Much easier to pass on a bike now.

Did build outs need a TRO?

Build outs were done under an Experimental TRO - ETRO/21/21. The actual plans on the council site are out of date but Spokes has the updated ones. Page 11 of http://www.spokes.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/2206-Corstorphine-LTN-ETRO-21-21-Plans.pdf shows the build outs on Manse Street.

Cornwallis Place/Summer Bank. Not a new addition! May actually be a remnant of the Central Edinburgh Traffic Management Scheme (RIP)?

Still advertised at the top of Rodney Street!

Just like it was in 2008.

A spokesperson said: “The number of bollards that have been installed demonstrates the scale of the problem. We are working with the school to help challenge this behaviour and encourage walking and cycling where appropriate.

“We will continue to encourage parents to consider other forms of transport and to consider others when dropping off children at school.”

The traffic gate, on Abbotts Road in Cheam, Sutton, has become a graveyard for wing mirrors with debris strewn across the gutters and pavement, with larger cars and vans in particular struggling to navigate the layout. Sutton Council has since agreed to tweak the layout of the measures.

To be fair, it looked pretty tight even before the new bollards!

Maybe people should buy narrower cars. Or use another road, altogether. After all, bollards have been in place for at least 15 years.

I see one of them valiantly gave its life in the line of duty back in 2021.

I see the Greater Edinburgh equivalent, the width restrictors at Newbridge village, have been rebuilt with Armco barriers after the previous masonry planters were progressively demolished by halfwit drivers.

@Arellcat: The slightly ironic aspect to this is that an awful lot of car drivers seem to have very little clear idea of how big their vehicles are - or, more accurately, aren't - meaning that they leave huge amounts of space between their vehicles and "obstacles" which all too often do not in any way encroach on their vehicle's dynamic envelope*, and hesitating or just not 'risking' passing through perfectly adequate gaps. And yet, faced with the possibility of maybe driving a slightly longer route, they mistakenly decide to 'go for it' anyway.

    * Except, of course, when that 'obstacle' is another human being on a bike, when such caution is cast to the winds.

The main lesson from all of this of course, is that only the foolish underestimate the power and popularity of the bollard. Seen here doing what it doe best in the line of duty

    Are they bollards?

The bollards were put in place six years ago as a ‘cutting edge’ crowd protection system.

Part of the problem is in the competence of road designers & hazard audits

At this junction the approaches (in 30mph limit) would cause no problems for a class 1 Police traffic driver travelling at 50 mph or over, apart from the introduction of a new traffic island with a 3.28 metre measurement between kerbs

The DKE for a bus *2.55m over body/2.8m over mirrors is 3.25m at 30mph, and bus drivers were having no probloems at all with the 3.28m 'choke'

I gave it a month, but within 2 weeks we had a 'result' from a DUI driver clearly exceeding 30mph from the damage caused
