Assessing the health and economic benefits of cycling in Glasgow
It is widely accepted that cycling benefits individual health as well as contributing to other public health goals such as reduced car travel and associated carbon emissions. The World Health Organisation has developed a health economic assessment tool (HEAT) for cycling, which can be used to estimate the health benefits of cycling in an area. The HEAT tool for cycling has been applied to local cycling data for Glasgow to get a sense of potential health economic benefits arising from cycling and to assess the utility of the tool.
