Given this poses an immediate and imminent hazard to cyclists and pedestrians, someone should tell the council that there is a category 1 defect on MMW and that immediate action should be taken to make this safe.

They had high-viz non-slip tape out on the drain covers for the race last night in the Grassmarket. A roll of that should be carried by all cooncil roads/neighbourhood teams as you could very quickly make the above defect safe until permanent repairs could be effected.

Question is, how does such a thing break? Not from cooncil vehicles being driven over it, surely not?

That kid who was jumping on the cycle counter probably jumped on it as well

Rodding eye with cast aluminium cover. Not rated/specced for use in public realm. Possibly 'domestic' stock? or old standard? Related to University Estate?

There is on of these on the A90 path on the north side of the FRB. Its been broken for around a year now. Council just put a cone over it. :0(

@daveC: A90 path = BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland! Just saying!

I reported the FRB one over a year ago myself. And yet...

BearSE never acknowledge anything from their online reporting form, in my experience. It might as well not exist.

Best contact John Russell at FETA as they have regular chaired meetings with BearSE and it will end up on the agenda, at least as AOB.

I think that's how the winter grit and road grime finally got swept from the path, after three years of accumulation. It could do with another sweep again now, right enough..

I made reference to them on twitter, comparing how well the FRB maintained bit of the path was to the BEAR bit.

They were keen to engage on twitter, came and swept it pretty quickly, and were full of apologies and we will do better sentiment.

That was over a year ago and probably the last time the path was swept!

We're derailing this thread a little but where does Bear finish and FETA begin?

I wonder who is responsible for the part next to the layby which was strimmed last week and all the strimmings left on the path.

FETA responsible from FRB down to the north end of the lay-by

BearSE from Ferrytoll up the start of the lay-by

Genius! That definitely won't be either moved out the way by a well-meaning cyclist who thinks it's an obstruction or end up on some students' coffee table come 3AM...

The cone had been moved to the side when I went past on Saturday. I moved it back.

Nothing a bit of expanding foam filler couldn't solve permanently. Anyway, a good body of evidence here for when some poor sod breaks bones due to CEC apathy, but sad that CEC doesn't give a proverbial flying one about people's safety.

It's large enough for small animals to enter, too. I wouldn't want someone's cat to become stuck whilst out patrolling at night.

I was tge person who reported the excess grit on the A90 on the south slip road path upto the layby. I email the council (fife). Response. Its Bear Scotland's. Bear Scotland's response. Its Fife Council's. Fife Council then admitted it was their's and removed the grit.

I've not reported the missing cover but may do at some point.

The grit's getting bad again too. Is the gutter Fife council or BearS? not much point clearing the path when there's a pile in the gutter.

Perhaps they could sweep it all into the rodding point so it doesn't need covered.

MMW Rodding Eye saga: A 'guerrilla' repair might consist of a pailful of rapid set high strength mortar mix poured in over a mesh (to stop slump and void)! This would mean the errant eye could not easily be used for its true purpose in future; thus the owner would then have to 'fix' it properly next time! Just saying!...

Cast alu rodding eye costs approx £20.00 plus VAT! To get a 'cover' you have to buy the complete unit usually.
Or 'liberate' one from your nearest building site!

It is probably for rodding a bend in the old 4" and 12" drains/sewers from University Medical School where it meets with surface water drainage from Hugh Robson Building and George Square; so might be worth also reporting it to University and ScottishWater, instead of Toon Cooncil! Just saying!...
