Sorry if I've created a duplicate thread. Anyone else going?
Been asked by organiser and neighbour at LB to remind people that there are still places left for this sportive.
Last year's one was very wet and windy. This year who knows...

A few hills but some great roads. 124km and 89km options.
I'm up for a CEC summer ride out too! Maybe kidding myself on fitness - every ride counts tho.

Super excited for this event - the first of two I've been aiming for this summer (other one is the Applecross Duathlon).

I'm off in one of the earlier waves. I guess that means every few minutes there will be a big group come past to give me a tow for a mile or two...

Just finished rebuilding rear wheel for this last night, so fingers crossed it stands up to the cattle grids and rocks on the road :)

Looks increasingly likely that a variety of waterproofs are going to be needed. We're certainly not going to need suntan lotion...

    Does the route involve fords?

    It might involve 'fording'!

So this morning, the weather forecast on the tv says that almost a month of rain will fall tomorrow. Any point in taking waterproofs??

Depends how cold and windy it will be? If just wet but warm probably no benefit from having another layer of wet clothing on? If cold and wind too then you might be less miserable with other layers? The commonwealth race was in similar conditions and Geraint Thomas toughed it in jersey and shorts. Was pretty black colour at the end, having started red green and white. Shame not today, forecast looks ok for my walk of several miles interspersed with discussion about the unmentionable

I take it that's code for knocking on doors because of your course.

If you don't mention it you won't get any converts!

EDIT I meant to write cause!!

Cheers gembo. At the moment, the forecast is for very little wind and a maximum temperature of around 14°C, so if it stays like that, maybe it'll not be so bad. Can't deny that I am no longer looking forward to it, though.

Kenny, very honest of you. It is a common, if largely unmentionable feeling when entered in long bicycling event that you might not be looking forward to it. Often once you get going it is great. Only if the three or four things come together does it become a real slog - rain, wind, cold and uphill into the previous three. Best of British!

There is the potential for severe weather over much of the UK during Sunday as a depression tracks over, or close to, the UK. There continues to be a great deal of uncertainty in the forecast but the public should be aware of the risk of flooding due to heavy rain as well as very strong winds and large waves, particularly on the southern side of the depression. Given the unseasonable nature of the weather this could be sufficient to disrupt transport and make outdoor activities dangerous.

This is a particularly volatile situation, and this alert is likely to be updated as the event approaches. The public are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and alerts through the weekend.

We rode down that way today. Signs are already up for the road closures and warnings of dangerous road surfaces and so on. Good luck to all who are riding it.

Yeah, Accuweather is also predicting less horrible weather than BBC / MetOffice. I'm coming to the conclusion that the BBC use the MetOffice for their weather, as they are always remarkably similar.

I'm still super excited. But then again, I get rained on often on audaxes. This is going to be just as wet, but instead of having to contend with the great British motorist, I get 2,000 fellow cyclists to play with.

Am wondering how many will actually ride though...

Rumours of "extreme" seem to have been exaggerated

Perhaps some riders will outpace most of the rain, others ride under a cloud.

I must be the first one back :)

The weather held off and whilst there was spits of rain it wasn't bad enough that I felt the need for a jacket.

My ride wasn't great - I punctured before the first climb (which is an improvement on last year when I punctured before leaving Peebles!) And couldn't get enough pressure into my tyre, so I was dreading the many cattle grids. I stopped a few times to put more air in, which threw out any hopes of a good time, so I tried to enjoy it instead. I even stopped at the feed stops to sample the plentiful supplies - I had a hot cup of tea and some macroni pie.

I finally found a track pump at 50 miles and had a good blast round the flat section to the finish.

I could tell I had been a while as my mates were already changed when I met them in Peebles.

I was using today's ride as my Gran Fondo ride for August, so had to do some laps of Peebles to make up the distance.

I thought it was a very well run sportive - certainly a whole level above last year when you barely saw any Marshall on the course.
The closed roads worked well, although in a couple of places we had cycle in a narrow coned off area to free up a carriage way for traffic.

    Can't wait until next year.

Great morning's riding. Not windy, no rain until after I'd finished, and lots of other riders to play with.

Only a few really tiny niggles with the course, which was generally awesome (on the moor there was a wide gravelly corner on a fast descent... it had been swept clean!)

Highly amusing to finish to the sound of megaphone excitement. One for next year's calendar?

Was a challngingly early start. I rode till my first real stop at Selkirk with my T-shirt inside out. No one noticed I think.

I was doing the ride with the aforementioned and now pictured cousin, Iain, on the short route in deference to him only starting this road cycling malarkey a few months ago when he moved to Linlithgow.

Did it on the stiff little fixer to keep things interesting, which after the Swire/Swyer climb they certainly were. As I said to a couple of people who spoke to me about my singular gearing, I looked at it and didn't think #^&% I need to get up that; I thought #@%! I need to get down after that.

Route and marshaling were very impressive, so yep, another thumbs up from me. Great event.
