We are now in 2015 (Audax-speak).

First Scottish event is on Sunday: Etal_U-Can, a 200km ramble through the Borders and Northumbria. It starts and end at MacDonalds in Gala! There are some good audaxes run from Galashiels: the new railway line should give easier access.

I know cyclingmollie and jacksonpriest are planning to do this one. Anyone else?

As well as being the first of the 2014 Ecosse calendar, it's the third last of the normal calenedar year. The other two are also from Gala:
26 Oct Ride of the Valkyries (100km)
6 Dec The long dark teatime of the soul (200km)

    Do enjoy dreaming of rides...

Half thinking of the Ride of the Valkyries, but may want a weekend off after two busy ones before that...

Need to plan my events for next year - want to manage a couple of 100km events to warm up with the target of a couple of 200km ones.

Looks like Tour of East Lothian, Forth & Tay and Moffat Toffee are candidates for next year.

Won't be doing this one... but nurturing dreams (nightmares?) of a Super Randonneur series in 2015, hopefully starting with 'Forth and Tay' in March.

I'm thinking about trying for a Super Randonneur series next year as well. The Forth and Tay would be a good start. Are you going to ride the Merse and Moors again? It's a convenient 300.

Ha, beware the Forth and Tay! I may have been a bit less fit then, but the last Forth and Tay in 2013 was probably harder than the Highlands 1300! :)

I'm hoping to return to addax in the spring. Need to lose some weight, get some miles in over the winter to be back to fitness first.

Looking forward to the new railway line next autumn to try some Borders audaxes.

    @cyclingmollie

I'm planning to do the Merse and Moors again, yes - then either Auld Alliance or Southern Uplands in May, and the final flourish of the Mull of Kintyre in June, hopefully.

@DrAfternon - ah yes, I remember the reports of that one. Only a few hardy souls completed it in the snow, if I remember?

The Etal-u-can was really enjoyable. We were very lucky with the weather given Friday, Saturday and today's. Lots of cafe opportunities and 5 new chimneys. It was a beautiful route on a lot of new roads entirely new to me. Route finding was a challenge from Grantshouse to Wooler but we made only one incorrect turn, which was quickly corrected. There were 50 or so on the ride. I am also pleased since I am not feeling too bad today despite a windy commute. Hopefully I don't collapse into a heap later today :)

Yes, that was a really good route. Once we climbed out of the freezing fog at Gattonside it turned into a nice warm and not too windy day. And where were the killer climbs? I've got too used to Cyclops' events. I regret not taking more photos. And for future I need to find a way of knowing where I am. Not just that I'm on course but where I'm riding through, what the rivers are, the valleys and the hills. <edit> A map?</edit>

A page or two torn from a road atlas usually suffices for my addax purposes.

Here's an event that's a bit different - "Ride into the sunset, blast up the Rest & Be Thankful, then watch the sunrise of the Firth of Clyde."

    Dunoon Dynamo

Glasgow to Dunoon, with an option to cruise back to Glasgow by boat.

  12. Sort-of sportivey, I'm sorely tempted by the Three Peaks cyclocross 'race'.

@HankChief, it's a nice idea but having ridden some of those roads, and climbed most of the hills on the longer route during the day, I reckon I'd be very reticent to do the longer route at night, even in a summer twilight kind of night. The speed of some of the descents is hair raising enough in daylight!

A good route though: longer one shares some of the route from an audax I did last year.

Not going to make Saturday now :(
Get back from London late and things on.

    Never mind!

Have a great ride everyone. I might still attempt a cheeky 100km on Sat morning from Edinburgh.

The forecast is looking good at this point, if rather parky. So much so that I am now in a quandary as to which bike to use. The pressure!

(anyone know of a chance-of-dry-roads calculator?)

Really good ride yesterday. Cold then wet then dark but good to be out. Most of the roads we went on were exceptionally quiet, there was good cake.

On the wildlife front, plenty of buzzards, a small murmuration, a hare and a badger wandering on the road just in front of me (in daylight). Also a Buddhist monk or two.

ahhh I cycled that road at one point last year past the buddhist monastery thing. It's stunningly good riding!

Well done. That's a long way at this time of year.

    I've booked on my first 400km http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/15-2/
I don't think I'm the only one from CCE. It's more expensive than most audaxes but is relatively well supported.

There is probably going to be a new Audax as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling 2015, but it is still a wee bit early to give any details.

    @amir

Well done for making the commitment - publicly stating your goals always seems to give that little bit extra motivation.

Still planning my goals for next year-probably Randonneur 500 or 1000. Will have to see how much time I can get to do these events and the required training- tricky with young kids.

I've foolishly also signed up for the 400, despite being slow, unfit and only ever having done one 200 :-s
One of our resident TV stars is also on it I believe, but I'll let him 'fess up if he wants!

The season is shaping up quite nicely and I've booked onto the following events:

Sun 22 Feb 2015 106km Musselburgh RCC 24th Tour of East Lothian from Old Town Hall, Musselburgh
Sun 08 Mar 2015 208km Forth and Tay from Dalmeny
Sat 28 Mar 2015 200km More Passes than Mastermind from Symington, Biggar
Sat 18 Apr 2015 300km Merse and Moors from Musselburgh
    Sat 25 Jul 2015 408km National 400 from Dingwall

There's quite a few more that I could slot in yet (mostly 200s). This season has my first 400 (hopefully) and my second 300. I am not sure whether I'll get persuaded into a 600km yet!

I've entered More Passes again and also the National 400 - can't resist new roads! Then ToTB.

Otherwise not much on the A&S front. I'm doing Glentress Seven and trying to find other stuff to divert me from PBP!

@Smudge I did the Snow Roads (300km) with a previous furthest distance of 118 miles (though addmittedly 300km doesn't really involve sleep deprivation).

I've signed up for the following, having never done more than a 300km before:

Sun 08 Mar 2015 208km Forth and Tay from Dalmeny

Sat 16 May 2015 400km The Southern Uplands from Musselburgh
Sat 06 Jun 2015 600km Mull of Kintyre from Ballachulish

The Dalgety Bay Massive is represented by at least two riders on each of the above events.

Likely also to enter the 'Grantown Gallop' 100km on 29 Aug, with Mrs Panyagua, and possibly another 200km somewhere along the way.
