To recap; the project aims to develop the City Observatory complex on Calton Hill in Edinburgh, restoring it to the original William Henry Playfair design, creating a new-build gallery space and opening the site to the public for the first time.

The City Dome (north-east corner) has been restored and is already showing the work of established and international artists, and we continue to raise funds for the wider project to open up the entire City Observatory walled site in 2016. This new world-class complex will combine innovative art and iconic heritage, creating a new synergy for the enjoyment of and benefit to the public and placing contemporary art at the heart of one of Edinburgh’s most iconic locations.

We are delighted to report that following a competitive process, renowned Edinburgh architectural practice, Malcolm Fraser Architects has been appointed to lead the development of the project.
