Halfords can not fix spoke for 3 or 4 days as too busy. I have tomorrow off work to cycle down borders other than decathlon which could try tonight any where that could fix quicker?

Cyclops of this forum has a excellent mobile repair service so he'd come to pick up the wheel. That's at https://wheels2wheels.co.uk/

Bicycle Works are another one that will do this well and cheaply.

+1 for Cyclops. But you can get lucky with bike shops in an emergency. BG Bikes and Blades in Portobello once replaced a spoke for me while I waited. Took about ten minutes, they charged £1.

Another vote for Martin (Cyclops), he offers a great service. He comes out to you, and for a spoke fix he may be able to do it on the spot.

I am in Livingston with my bike as took the train in and took it to Halfords but could not fix it for 4 days so did not put it in. Bike still rides ok with no load but imagine will get worse with load, its just that will be loading it to go down to borders.

I can't imagine that it will do your wheel much good to ride it with one spoke missing. Caught early perhaps only the spoke needs replacing. Later perhaps the wheel will need relacing.

This has me thinking, Would we (as a forum) benefit from a wheel building evening? I know there must be a few wheel builders here and we could get some non wheel builders who fancy a go at the basics.

Were it me I'd phone Harts (above) or the bike smith in Haymarket and see if one can sort you out tonight then go either to HYM or EDP to the nearest bike shop.

I took it the bike smith by the station as was nearest shop to try when got off the train at 6pm thought may have to trail around many to find one that could fix for tomorrow.

I am getting a new wheel, hub and spokes. As they suggested a stronger wheel would be better if cycle distances like the borders often. I figured yes a short tour that. I figured if just the spoke be another few months and would need again.

@DaveC Yes, a wheel building evening would be very useful.

I got a tandem wheel with sputnik rims and DMR revolver hub that makes a nice clicking sound freewheeling. Much more ridged than last wheel and seems to roll a lot better with load must have done about 160 miles on it, much better than my original wheel that kept breaking

Last weekend intended to cycle to the lake district to wild camp. So I took 5 litres of liquids battery pack for lights and phone tent sleeping bag and food and things. Due to the weather constant rain I was making slow time ( not a good enough cyclist to cycle fast in the rain) so got the pennie express back from Lockerbie. My bike was making a noise I though the rear brake disc so disconnected it yesterday and not that. I then thought the mud guard so moved that but not that, then gears but not that. I think it’s the wheel as even when free wheel with no pedal or brake makes noises. I notice 2 spokes are loose. At first I thought broken but just quite loose so I am guessing what making the noise.

So I wonder is 2 loose spokes like a broke spoke that should be fixed soon? It does not feel sloppy to ride like when broke but annoyingly noisy on every turn of the wheel worse at low speed, but only when cycling when spin the wheel when I am not on bike makes no noise. Would it be a re tension of the loose spokes?
