That's really very cool.
This must be one of the most productive forums for its size around - PoP and now a book!
;-)
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

@cb
I don't quite understand it yet, but I think sales and marketing have quite long lead-in times and a very particular seasonal timetable. We shall see.
@fimm
Absolutely. CCE is a salon.
Out in time for Christmas, less than ideal for the bothy launch party!
@IWRATS, chapeau
will buy this book for cash
but won't actually read it til its pirated for the kindle
does the gaick get a full chapter of reminisce ?
the minigaig would be worthy of a lengthy chapter
The wee stone people must be in it
@bax
The Gaick is crucial. I've yet to taste the pleasures of the Minigaig.
Peg Leg's lessons were not entirely in vain.
@gembo
Aye, the stones are present.
I've got plans to run the Minigaig to Kingussie but now I'm thinking of extending it out another night in the bothy at glenfeshie.... Probably next year though.
mind yer ankles, steveo
lot of deep wee creeks obscured by long grass
(1) Congratulations! [o for early 2000s style UBB code - there could have been scrolling, flashing text & tacky animated smilies here]
(2) I see that the key issue has not been addressed yet: I speak of course of the book jacket author photo. So many possibilities & not all of them need even involve the fez.
(3) Scratch & sniff special edition?
Congratulations @IWRATS - will definitely be buying a copy when it is published
Not a cycling trip, though most of it would be passible there would probably be a lot of hike a bike in the middle. This is the route I was musing over on Saturday night.
Lateish Train to Blair Athol - Run to Aviemore, train home.
First night in the Allt Sheich-shomething-or-other bothy- 12k easy tracks
Second day Allt Sheich-shomething-or-other to Ruigh Aiteachain. Depending on water levels between 30k and 35k; rough tracks for much of it.
Ruigh Aiteachain to Aviemore 24k easy tracks.
Wouldn't need much gear, maybe a bivvy in case the bothies are full, some (cold) food for days 1-2 then chips in Aviemore!
that's an inspirational itinerary, steveo
if i had four long legs and cloven hooves, i'd be right up for it
might get a frosty reception in the bothy tho

Cheers bax, part of me is reading that straight from Sir Humphrey "that's a brave decision, minister" :D
might get a frosty reception in the bothy tho
Take a hip flask, solves most issues!
I've walked something a bit similar to that although 1) we went over the Munro and one (or was it two?) Corbett(s) and 2) we walked out to Kingussie rather than Aviemore. IIRC that was mostly tracks too (it was a while ago you'll gather).
Cheers fimm, that's reassuring, the middle bit is the only bit I've not really spent any time with.
the original "plan" was Kingussie but figured I'd make it harder on myself!
Just got a pdf copy of the typeset manuscript. The font is Perpetua, designed by the notorious English pervert and sculptor Eric Gill.
This pleases me no end.
Gill was a fine artist but a very very bad father and husband
Also a very very bad brother and dog owner.
A cry for help from the Cult of the Stone Tent.
So the first edition of Overlander has been printed and actually exists. I haven't seen it yet which will be a big deal. The first reviews are, however, in. They are very touching and precious to me so here they are;
"Sensitive, personal and culturally informed … an eloquent reminder of the wonderful country we live in … Time to get on my bike." Andy Wightman MSP
"A remarkable book, the tale of a strenuous mini-adventure and a clarion call to those who manage our upland areas." Cameron McNeish
"Cheerfully debunks much of the off-putting preciousness of the hardcore cycling fraternity to return cross country cycling to what it should be." Lesley Riddoch
I nearly fell off the sofa laughing at Lesley Riddoch's quote. She is some woman.
Publication date is the 23rd of March for anyone interested. There will be a small event on the evening of the 28th.
Nice reviews

IWRATS - fantastic reviews, by some fantastic reviewers.
@IWRATS, Kay's Bar this Thursday. Thor can't make it because of Ragnarok but we will cope.
Incredible news. Very well done. Does one have a link with which one can use to purchase said tome?
Or do I have to **shock horror** walk into a shop?
@iwrats - could be a good book for the review page on Geographer mag (RSGS). Starting work on Spring issue in a week or so. Will mention to editor - or your publicist can advise!
Well done on your entry into publishing. I hadn't read this thread for ages and never realised that a forumers book was hidden in it.
Looking forward to reading this iwrats.
