"Lots of kids walking to school who seemed less than bothered about the cyclists."
Mix of youthful obliviousness and better risk assessment skills(?)
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Ended up at the tail end of a peloton of eight going along the canal this morning. It's usually busy but have never been in quite such a long line before. It lasted until the lifting bridge and then split off in several directions.
I passed 30 cyclists between Cramond and Ferry Tolls yesterday morning. More than I've seen for a while.
I was slightly later (in both directions) on my 'long commute' yesterday. It seemed to me that there were more cyclists going the same way as me than I usually see (I normally expect to neither pass nor be passed).
Zero flybys on Strava this morning, but did pass about 5 cyclists, so not too bad. Heaps of runners though.
Rain & darkness certainly put them off this morning - I didn't see or pass another cyclist on my ride to work from the Shore until I got to Roseburn.
No runners/joggers and only 1 dog-walker spotted between Leith and Balgreen.
A very quiet morning, but I don't blame them. It was a tad damp.
whats a strava flyby?
I drove to office this morning, a very rare event - just couldnt take anymore of the constant low-level anti-cyclist nonsense.

These days when commuting I go out of my way to take offroad paths and quiet, wide roads and avoid busy roads as much as possible. It helps me a lot - I don't feel under nearly so much pressure.
@rider73 strava flyby is a feature showing you other strava users with whom you came to close proximity. You can see their route, compare your performance and/or stalk them.
I agree with CC. Even if it will take me longer than usual, quiet and wide roads are definitely better. It makes me enjoy biking more to the office compared to taking the daily stress.
Lots of bikes around this morning. Counted 129 on my way from Currie to the High St. (Including about 10 kids going to school along the canal.)
@bill - you mean in like REAL TIME????
The more prominent/usefully placed bike racks at Heriot-Watt were ram-packed as I passed by on my lunchtime walk.
Since getting her electric bike my wife has been doing 18 miles per day some days. Going from home to office to other office to home. Have noticed a big change in her.
That's brilliant to hear. My e-bike made a great difference to me too, both physically and mentally. I can put in a good few miles on a non-assisted bike now thanks to my wee e-bike letting me stretch my range. They are the gateway drug.
Nice one Mrs Hopey!
I am pleased that my OH is doing a little more of late. We even went for a week's cycle tour.
I thought there were a lot of bikes around this morning.
there seems to be a pattern at work,
sunny day , showers are busy and have to wait
20% of not sunny day, showers are all free
hmmmm
‘Fair weather cyclist’ is sometimes used as an insult.
But as ‘we’ say -
“
But ANYWAY no-one says you have to cycle every day and in all weathers.
“
Hardly anyone coming down the NEPN at Russell Road. Normally busy.
However the road works (I think) causing hold ups in Gorgie Road may have had something to do with it.
Been seeing more ebikes on my commutes along the A8 recently. This week it has been 2 women with them (different times)
They were both dressed in civvies and it did make me feel a bit silly to be puffing and panting away in lycra when they were serenely travelling at similar speeds.
Genuinely impressed by the pick up speed available to get across Drumbrae Roundabout.
2 more today this time citybound. Great to see.
I counted a record (I think) eleven cyclists turning right from Gilmore Place, a group of whom had made the turning ahead of me and the rest of whom were wating in the ASZ as I headed across the junction from Tarvit Street a little before 9 am this morning, moments before my rubbish cycling misjudgement turning onto Lower Gilmore Place.
The canal towpath seemed surprisingly quiet in comparison.
On a train from Dundee, currently 4 bikes (one is a Brompton).
My cycle home in the dark at about five twenty last night is likely one of the busiest nighttime commutes that I've experienced on the canal towpath to date between Slateford Aqueduct and Leamington Lift Bridge; I didn't count, but I would estimate that 15-20 cyclists passed me heading west.
@hankchief, the thrust is awesome, i need to get to Craigleith in a suit in a minute (I mean leaving not time to get there, that has not changed but the accewlration from lights and of course up hills is awesome sauce)
Unrelated bikes on off-peak train to Fife.
jeez they look clean!
