Was late home and was scheduled to be POW (parent on watch) this evening so I took the mostly road way back from town (Gilmore Place, Polwarth Tcce, Colinton road) instead of the canal.

Approx 10 minutes faster (~18 minutes instead of normal 25-30) but oh so much more miserable and hard going. THink some of the speed was in general just me trying to keep ahead of the mainly terrible driving.

I was in work earlier than usual last week. However it did give me the chance to witness 68 bikes coming towards me between Whitehouse Road and the FRB which is a new record.

There was a mixture of families going to school as well as heads down commuters and everything in between.

i've been riding to work in clumps of cyclists this week, i'm not sure if it's the weather or i'm leaving 5 minutes later or what, but it's so nice to go up north/south bridge/Clerk st with company.

WoL path eerily quiet at the moment. Not seen another cyclist this week until the obligatory high five with jdanielp on the towpath.

Towpath a.m. Also devoid of craiglockhart primary and boroughmuir high school types.

Was overtaken briefly by chap with large hamax seat on back (empty) on way home.

Pride would not allow this to stand. Caught him and now he is very happy to learn of the old stagecoach road out of stow. Albeit it is closed before the Heriot turn until August

Was then subjected to satire from a couple dawdling along on hybrids who reacted to my bell with shouts of Hunt Them Down. I took this encouragement to heart and blasted home. Now have choice of going out for a cycle or cleaning a bike, hmmmm

Hybrid dawdlers must be destroyed. They are the worst.

Good for him! Leccy bikes, being heavier beasts, work you harder than a usual bike when you're just using pedal power, IMO. So you get a push up a hill but you're working a bit harder on the flat. Swings and roundabouts.

Seven cyclists in the eastbound stop box at the George/Hanover junction. Unfortunately, at least three were impatient/selfish oaves.

12 cyclists at the Roseburn Terrace/Roseburn Street/Wester Coates junction this morning.

25 altogether on my nasty commute. 3 in the lift coming up from the basement parking.

Cyclists to the right of me, cyclists to the left of me (no you shouldn’t have crept up like that).

Mr Trix has decided to SORN his motorbike for the winter. His commute is very short so he's travelling by bike. He's having a great time. I certainly never heard so much about his commute before! Previously he said he'd only do it if he had an e-bike due to a steep uphill on the direct route, now he has a MTB with nice low gears and has finessed the route to break up the hill. No e-bike needed. He's even named his bike - none of his motorbikes have ever had names.

Counted 131 on my ride in this morning - which is a new record, beating even the summer months.

Bike parking at work overflowing - previously only did that on warm late spring/summer days. Positive but also inconvenient!

If your office is where I think it is, then there're plenty of car parking spaces there which could be upgraded into ~10 bike parking spaces. Good time to get rid of the wheelbenders too.

Oh yes I have emailed the Car Park Powers making just those points. There are also five Sheffield racks right round the back, but this AM there were 12 bikes in them when I arrived...

Saw an advert for ambulance-chasing no-win no-fee lawyers on telly tonight. The only accident they showed in the advert was of a bloke on a bike riding into a car that pulled out on him. It might even have been a real video. Interesting that the market has now moved to the 'accident that wasn't your fault' being on a bicycle. I think this might be progress.

Despite the rain this morning, I'm fairly certain that I spotted a record number of people at or approaching the ASZ on Gilmore Place at the King's Theatre Junction this morning. There were around ten people at the ASZ (a right-turning vehicle was taking up most of it) when I arrived at the end of Tarvit Street, a number which grew until the lights turned green, and there was still a steady stream of cyclists arriving at the back of the queue as I made my way past them all along Gilmore Place. I didn't actually count, but there must have been at least thirty in total.

Sitting at Palmerston Place/Clifton Terrace lights yesterday saw 18 cyclists heading to Shandwick Place and Torphicen Street.

I've spent the last two days in that London. It feels even more bike friendly than last time I was there. I went from EUS to Islington and thence to the City and back to KGX on quiet roads and routes with masses of bikes. All the riders were working age, but were all shapes and sizes. I got all my routes from cycle.travel, which I am liking more and more. Cycling in London is now really quite good.

54 Cyclists came the other way between Whitehouse Road and Ferrytoll this morning. While it is the most I have seen it miight be the highest winter(?) total I've seen.
