Are they going to stare at it?
Loved the comment BTL which said
Rest of world: 'Ooh look, an eclipse -- that's quite interesting.'
Cyclists: 'We're all doomed!'
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

It's been murky dreichness the last few days. Can't see an eclipse making much difference.
Annoyingly, there's also good aurora conditions forecast for tonight as well.
I had a timelapse camera pointed at the sky over Loch Ness when this happened;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-31904273
but I'd turned the interval timer down to five minutes to see if the stars would come out better. They didn't and I missed the meteor. Harrumph.
Aurora apparently going mental just now :(
Could hit the maximum of the scale. Big shame
Anyone know where to buy those eclipse "glasses"?
I ordered some on line last week.
If anyone knows a local supply, am now tempted to get an extra pair. MrSRD is convinced we still have some put 'safely away' after the last one, but I have concluded likelihood of us finding them is slim...
sheesh. now i wish I'd bought 20 and resold them! I only got 2 pairs (and some welding glass) since they were £7 for two including P&P.
I was in London for the 1999 eclipse and found the best way to see it was reflected in a glass fronted building. Limited options in Edinburgh though.
The other thing that was really weird (as well as the light dimming) was the plethora of taxis cruising round for a fare. Almost no other traffic but every taxi had their light on.
I think I used a polarising camera filter taped to a pair of Polaroid sunglasses in 1999. I fished out my welding glass the other day and bought some tracing paper at lunchtime (assuming I won't be able to find my existing stash of it in time) for making some cereal/oatcake/wheel-box cameras obscurae for the wingpiglet's nursery.
some handy instructions/designs here
Saw the last eclipse from Derek Jarman's garden at Dungeness.
It was braw.
'Saw' the last eclipse from a cliff top in Cornwall on what proved to be a very cloudy morning ... there was something very eerie about it all the same.
I was on a boat in Gairloch bay, dolphin/whale/shark watching but obviously a bit dull
I was in Mandailles, convinced that my pinhole camera wasn't working because the image of the sun wasn't round....genuinely excited when I realised what was going on. Still remember the weird chill, despite my being south of the total eclipse zone.
Flamborough head and used a colander
Back garden in Barrhead.
Saw a thing on twitter saying that Daily Record has a voucher for free glasses that you can get at morrisons.
Hmm, forecast is pretty cloudy, may not need them. :-(
I worked in flexible packaging in Bristol at the time, and metallised film was about 50% of the stuff we did - cue everyone having A0 sized eclipse viewers....
Mind you, it clouded over a bit then too, but the filter still helped you see the sun more easily through the cloud.
I've just lumped the tripod in on my back this morning (too rattly on the bike rack) so I've probably jinxed it.....
Brother & his ex are both astronomers and used to plan holidays around eclipses. They took some amazing photos of eclipses in exotic locations (temples in India, top of a mountain in Turkey, etc....)
In contrast, I saw the last eclipse by peering out of a dirty window in a depressing office block at Edinburgh Park.
Eastside Bikes have old gas-welding goggle lenses they are selling. You'll need 3 or 4 to made it safe for eclipse viewing.
The Morrisons / Daily Record thing sold out within hours.
I'll be heading off to the top road on Arthur's Seat for 9am tomorrow in an optimistic mood.
The last partial I saw was from a trail at Innerleithen and there was enough cloud to make it visible without eye protection. The time before that I saw dozens of pin-hole images on the pavement caused by the sunlight filtering through the leaves on the trees. Fingers crossed for clear skies.
Just found out our school is keeping the kids indoors due to the risk of some of them looking at the sun. I gues the teacers can't be made responsible for all of them.
So if it's clear, I'm going to be with them, and they can go in late.
As far as we are aware Glasgow hasn't issued any guidance on what to do in school.
I've got an… interesting… S4 class in the morning so I'll not be taking them out.
Met office are now saying mist for tomorrow morning.
I'm going for pinhole camera on a place from LHR to Edi!
Fingers crossed!
Looking good ...
