We have the same station but in orange in the underground car park at waverely court. Also a wee bottle of finish line oil.
Do all RBS employees have yellow cagoules?

@gembo: makes bankers easy to identify for the tarring/feathering
Posted 10 years ago # -
@stickman careful...there are a few bankers on here, including me.

And me!

Ha! I get the context of the message now. ;)

I'd like to suggest something like that to our buildings people. Does anyone have any details?

This is the thing:

Professionally I'm a knave errant, moving around the big bad offices as required. I can confirm that RBS's Gogarburn campus is, in my experience, by far the best in Edinburgh for cyclists even before the coming of this pod. Ample parking, showers, lockers, drying room....and space to get changed even at 09h00 without getting wet elbows in the midriff.
I hear rumours that Scottish Gas is even better but I am no gas giant.

@Iwrats: No mention of the quality of changing room chat :-(
Posted 10 years ago # -
At the Gas we have a lovely bike store (in the undercroft, right next to the entrance) with a bike fixing stand and a load of lockers for helmets. Upstairs there is a drying rom with plenty of hanging space over the heater vents, more lockers, a tumble dryer and iron. There are about 8 showers (3m 3f 2 unisex/disabled) which were done up a couple of years ago). All quite nice, but I've not seen RBS to compare it to :)
A certain amount of the good stuff was added because our H&S /facilities chap is a keen cyclist so managed to get the budget approved for the bike fixing kit etc.

Drying room is the missing link

@HankChief
What's said and seen in the changing room stays in the changing room.
That said I was always intrigued by the split between lefties and righties. All RBS CCEers seem to be righties...?
Posted 10 years ago # -
I'm proud to be a rightie.
In my youth I dallied with being a leftie but it didn't suit me.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Well it *is* said that one move to the right as one gets older...

I was advised may receive disaplinary action for my jacket smelling when cycling to work so have stopped cycling to work is 9 miled to my work to be fair. However subsequently had it for smelling when had not actually cycled so not quite sure of the objectiveness of the claims-). There is lack of rigour in the evaluation of smelling someone makes a claim but as I have form for smelling anomous claim treated as fact no scientific method or quasi legal evaluation of the claim -)

@Ed1
That's unfortunate. Disciplinary is always unpleasant for all concerned. Hope you can see a way to a happier workplace.

"The Royal Bank of Scotland Gogarburn HQ has been presented with the first-ever Cycle Friendly Employer Plus Award in recognition of its efforts to support and encourage more staff to cycle."
Posted 8 years ago # -
I will post the link on my employer's intranet and see if it prompts them to try to match one of their rivals!

@Stickman
RBS is heaven. Never touched elbows with anybody. Barely room to swing a rat in your triangular cubbyhole.

was going to put this in spotted, but this seems more appropriate:

There should also be special mention for RBS getting 15 Elephant Bikes for staff use.
I'm reliably informed that the person who spearheaded this initiative is on CCE. So well done them. A great idea.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Big up to the RBS bike mahout.....whoever they might be.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@hankChief does this person own an elephant bike themselves? ;-)

Does anyone know if RBS is still the only employer to have achieved the cycle friendly plus award? Cycling Scotland doesn't seem to list any of the award holders anymore, nor does it have any case studies to read.
Posted 7 years ago # -
My work have helpfully informed me they will look at improving bike parking at HQ "in 18 months or so". I feel so cared for. And yet I think we are cycle friendly employers. (Three stinky shower cubicles and no proper locker/drying space & some substandard wheelbender parking plus four neglected pool bikes is all it takes apparently.)
I'm going to have to resurrect the organization BUG or replace it, aren't I?

“I'm going to have to resurrect the organization BUG or replace it, aren't I?”
Yes.
Don’t forget to put on your intranet -

“There should also be special mention for RBS getting 15 Elephant Bikes for staff use.”
How’s that going?
