There was a snippet in the Metro this morning about the first snow of the season being on the way, but for higher ground only.
They seem to get a lot of their weather stories from Positive Weather Solutions, not sure about this one though.

Anyhow, the Cairngorms saw quite a bit of snow a few weeks back so the story's wrong.

I felt snow in the air the other day and dreamt last night that there was snow on Arthur's Seat. So it must be true.

If I can't get there by cycling then cars aren't going to make it either.

I inhaled a snowflake last winter, an amusing experience I recommend trying it
Then got one in the ear when turning to look behind me before pulling out behind a parked car (oi Dave ;)

It only counts as snow when I start riding the (tactical white!) MTB and wearing my h***et! ;-)

I forgot to take safety specs on a number of occasions, attempting to ride through the snow with flakes getting in your eyes every few seconds isn't something i want to try again...

H***et with a skip, flat cap or baseball cap all work better I find, glasses just end up covered in drips of water for me!

Been down that route with motorised and non-motorised transport. Now I'm trying to run just one type of each vehicle, that way I actually ride the good/expensive bike rather than enduring a BSO (or equivalent) to keep the expensive one "nice".
On a bicycle especially, if parts corrode/wear out, then it's a good reason to replace it with better ;-) and a good bike will mostly be fine with a bit of care and maintenance :)
My maintenance efforts go effectively on one bike as well rather than being divided between several (none of which end up getting enough!)

Yes I was thinking as I set out that perhaps the shorts will have to go back in the drawer sooner this year.
    Bring on the snow!

I like the cold, can pedal faster and not get too hot.
So far full finger gloves on the odd day is the only change I have made

Yeah i swapped to longs last week, i don't mind the cold but my knees were getting achy. Going to buy warm gloves this year, endured last year on the EBC three season gloves only to discover that we did for a change have a fourth season.

Back into wearing a hat and full finger gloves, shorts went into the drawer last week!

I don't mind the cold, but I wish scotrail wouldn't heat their trains as though they're trying to grow tomatoes in them :-(
When all the passengers are getting on from a freezing platform in winter coats and the conductor is wandering around red faced in shirt sleeves it's time to turn the heaters down guys!!

EBC have Protective tights without padding in their autumn/winter catalogue. Double thickness on the knees. I'll be popping in to try on a pair asap. My old pair have multiple holes from multiple offs and a hole worn in the backside.

I've got a couple of pairs of those for the depths of winter. Highly recommend them, but they are staying firmly at the bottom of the drawer until the end of October. I'm soldiering on with short bibtights, track mitts and knee warmers.

I suppose I should fish out my leg warmers at some point soon. I already have my waterproof glubs sitting on the shelf and shall buy a pair of waterproof shoes any day now. Still not cold enough for long arms yet.

TBC have something similar from gore, but I want an integral pad. I want the Altura windproof biblongs or something similar.

Got the EBC insulated gloves yesterday so the only part of me that wasn't frozen this morning was my hands and even they were cold by proxy.

    Cool autumn.

Leaves will probably start dropping in earnest.

  28. I got a lift half way and walked the rest this morning (going out straight from work, so easier than leaving the bike in the office overnight) - walking through the Meadows was most pleasant in the cool air. Plus it gives me an excuse to wear my hat...

    A high of 7° and a low of 5°, yet actually -2°?
My thumb and the tips of my fingers and toes were a little cold this morning. Not my ears, though.

  30. Yes, but you're like a little heat reactor Mr Pig. I thought I was good with the cold....
