Awesome watching the guys heading up the road today! Enjoying the trackers.

It was VERY similar weather 4 years ago if I remember. Lots of rain and thunder storms all over the UK. Luckily skin is waterproof ;)

Gutted to not be able to help out but couldn't get the time off work. Kudos to all those that were able.

I spoke to HC briefly last night. He was a little sore but in good spirits.

HC must be about to leave Scotland soon.

Meanwhile the bulge of riders is finally arriving in Edinburgh (shame my volunterring stint was last night).

Been very busy up here. Milan Velo came and went hours ago. Currently looking after an M5 after taking it down to Bike Works for pit stop.

@Laidback - that wasn't you taking photos of riders leaving the control on their way South was it? Standing on the west side of Lasswade Road?

You'll have a photo of me on my way home as well if so.

He's going to have a full spare day in London at this rate. He's also going to be too knackered to do anything with it...

First rider is not HC is it?

ARobComp was our LEL Audax sufferer of the year in 2013. Him and Darkerside.

Frenchy - I was just using phone to take pics at Gracemount and bit from bike on Lasswade Rd

    "Pocklington for breakfast no.2.

    So tired...

Good group though - took the flatter route so rattled along.

    360k to go..."

I wouldn't compare ARobComp's herculean efforts at the front of the pack with me spinning gently round at the back on a recumbent. I seem to remember he couldn't feel his hands for a week afterwards.

I had one slightly sore achilles tendon. Laid back is definitely the way to go!

I enjoyed my shifts as a volunteer at the Edinburgh control. I saw some unusual bikes - these were my favourites:

A Japanese hand built Cherubim. Sooo beautiful.

His and hers Fusos hand built by Dave Moulton in the 1970's:

And someone really did ride an MTB:

I volunteered to help late notice on Tuesday in Edinburgh. It was a rewarding experience.

Then I bumped into 4 LEL DNFs in Edinburgh Waverley this morning as I headed for work. I assisted the first who was a little tired and agitated after his ride back up from Eskdalemuir. He had ridden late into Edinburgh yesterday before starting back down to Eskdalemuir. He was worried about getting back for his ferry in time. I gave him a little advise on ticketing and watched his bike as he bought an expensive ticket. I then sat with him while the platform number eventually came up. I bought him a coke and sourced a 'Euro to UK' travel adaptor so he could charge his phone on the journey south. I then saw his bike onto the train and him and another, who was getting the same train back, on and away. I don't think he had slept lastnight. His GPS had died and he had been given a route sheet but was having problems using it. He had followed a few riders but felt they were not fast enough for him to complete in time so abandoned on the ride south in the borders. I guess he thought he knew the ride north to Edinburgh, rather than try to navigate south to Lockerbie or Carlisle.

Just checked HC's tracker: he left Spalding at 18:40, having done 1261km. Around 180km to go.

    Wow.

Yes, a rider told me yesterday that the secreet to crossing the Fens is to do it at night when the wind dies down.

he's just checked into St Ives - 100km to go- superb effort!

Assume he'll spend the night there? Has a lot of time left.
Remember Dave C doing something similar in PBP...
