I suspect that might be exactly what the antis want.

Let them have it then! Better nothing than legitimating the unsafe, farcical Plan B.

Aha! Now it's understood. The Daily Wail hath spoken. Cycle lane lunacy! The new blight paralysing Britain.

Oh I suppose cyclists are part of the LIBERAL ELITE too.

Liberal possibly, but less elite than any government's ministers.

It was the 1st Roseburn Stakeholder Group meeting last night, hence the motley crew spotted above. I was disguised in a suit.

Following a short walk around, the task we were set was improving both Option A and Option B.

We were split into 2 tables considering each in turn. Some attendees took to the task better than others...

The officers are going to take away the various suggestions and come back with an improved version of both options.

It was unsure how many of the suggestions had already been considered but discarded or how each suggestion will be balanced against the scheme objectives.

However, things will move quickly from here with a desire to get it all agreed by Christmas, so we will find out soon enough. Watch this space...

    EEN http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/council-visit-roseburn-over-cycle-track-redesign-1-4249449

"Revised option B” would see neither Roseburn Place nor Roseburn Gardens closed to through traffic

Not content with what they've (un)achieved so far, they want to unpick the single thing that option B had going for it. However going by HankChief's report above, this does sound more like a blusterous soundbite for the benefit of the EEN.

Consequently, local hostility to cycling infrastructure has often been a proxy for wider anger at gentrification. In Portland, Oregon in 2011, a proposed bike lane through a historic African American neighbourhood led to opposition from local residents.

Who makes the final decision? Is it going back to Transport Committee again?

Final decision? Didn't the Council meeting on 30th August say that Convenor Hinds and Vice-convenor McVey would make the final decision?

What "revised" Option B would maintain:

I would like all those people who turned up dressed as cyclists to protest against option A, to please cycle this route at this time and then look me in the eye and tell me this route is safer for cyclists.

Good clip @stickman. Really shows the utter crapness of option B.

Revised option B will leave Roseburn Place and Roseburn Gardens open to traffic. One of the initial complaints from the anti side came from Cllr (now MSP) Balfour who claimed that traffic in Roseburn Place was a danger to kids at Roseburn Primary - so revised option B leaves it open as the rat run it is and a continuing danger to kids.

At the 30th August Committee meeting, Mr Art Man said in his deputation that Roseburn Place and Gardens should be left open to traffic to allow cars that couldn't find a parking place in the loading bays on Roseburn Terrace the first time, to drive round the Gardens and Place to try and park next time round. This is what they want to keep that rat run open for.

Option A is the only way.

I wonder how many people are using Roseburn Gardens to go from Russell Road to Corstorphine Road simply because turning right out of Russell Road is a nightmare.

Frenchy - if I am in my car I always do that, I have done ever since they changed the road way back.

My feeling is that a majority of drivers use the rat run. Some even do it when Roseburn St is clear and the light for Roseburn Terrace is green!?

At non-really-busy times it is remarkable how frequently it is quicker to go the 'proper' way.

I used to commute from south Newington to Dunfermline. On the days when I drove, I always went down Russell Rd and through Roseburn Gardens. The only exception would be the rare time when there was nobody queueing and the light went green as I got to the bottom of Russell Rd.

It is a terrible junction. Most of the time to turn right out of Russell Road involves turning left a bit and doing a virtual U-turn to join the queue*.

Of course, most drivers, being generally incapable of using their steering wheels, end up at all sorts of crazy angles.

If you waited to turn right cleanly then you'd perhaps still be there.

*So maybe rat-running is better? Who knows?

    @cb

...and the council design team have addressed this problem in the plans by realigning Russell Road to give it priority over Roseburn Street. This was in response to feedback in the consultation and shows that people are listened to.

But the oppositon aren't interested. It's clear they want the whole thing scrapped.

I'd say that most traffic coming from Russell Road turns into Roseburn Gardens. It's a constant stream turning right.

The awfulness of that junction makes me glad of the limited cycling chunk - blind corner, mixes you up with a lot of primary school kids - and all.

Cllr Balfour paid tribute to P Gregson, R Smart and the owner of the Art et Facts Gallery on Roseburn Terrace, all of whom had spoken at that day’s meeting of the Transport and Environment Committee

Perhaps Cllr Balfour wasn't listening to the incoherent ramblings of these people.

He didn't pay tribute to local residents who spoke in favour of the cycle lane?

I had to get a few pictures framed this week. Funnily enough it didn't cross my mind to try a framer in Roseburn, even though it's on my way home.

When I get my latest vintage bus map framed, it also won't be crossing my mind. I'll probably cycle it home from the framer in Bruntsfield like I've done with other large pictures in the past.

You should at least drop that info into the framers...

I also pass the shops at Roseburn twice a day. There's less than zero chance of me giving them any custom.

Stakeholder group looks nice and diverse.

There's men with grey hair, men with grey hair and beards, men with no hair, and men with no hair and beards. And Lesley Hinds.

Small ad in the Corstorphine Grapevine, the local freesheet (and probably also the Murrayfield edition)

Cycle Track Campaigner Welcomes Change of Heart
On Tuesday 20th August the Edinburgh Council Transport Committee bowed to pressure from 6000 residents who told them that the plan to run a protected cycle track from Roseburn to Haymarket would not be in the best interest of all. The Council passed the motion to be continued - neither the suggested Option A or Option B are being progressed. For more information contact PG at KNS

    Had forgotten this -

    "

The original phrase "Think global, act local" has been attributed to Scots town planner and social activist Patrick Geddes.

    "

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_globally,_act_locally

That PG is MUCH more important in Roseburn history.

Option A goes past one of his classics.

@kappers, there's an excellent picture framer in Abbeyhill. Shop local!
(At least one of the staff cycles too, you can usually see the bike parked outside).
