The bagpipe shop has removed its sign.

Is it reading too much into things that John Lauder of Sustrans (a piper) said that he would have a chat to the owner next time he went in to buy something from the shop?

Ugh. Here's my completely unbiased view as a (relative) non-local. We go to the skating rink with the child every week but the classes are over for now, which I hadn't realized, so we were at a loose end in the area and decided to visit. First stop at Café Colpamia which has lovely pastries, is set back from the road and has no anti-cycling posters (though the cycle parking situation is a bit dire). So far so good. On the way back to Shandon via Russell Rd decided against the right-turn bonanza that is the Roseburn Gardens rat run and just walked the bikes to the big junction. Wow. Narrow pavements, illegal parking (see here), most of the road almost all the way back to the bridge taken up by rat-runners waiting to turn right at the Tesco, huge wait for the green man at the junction itself – and the posters, obviously. Can they really not see that the street is not a nice place to be? That experience totally put me off just visiting if I'm in the area in the first place, let along coming from afar on purpose. Moar cars is not what the area needs in any way shape or form...

that is quite a painful image... I remember Adam McVey saying to me "I think we can find a solution which will please everybody" - shortly before perfectly characterising that statement by turning left into me and knocking me off my bike

Doing a frank should now enter the lexicon for blatant political hypocrisy?

Pleased tonight to see that my favourite off licence (supplied the vino on my first date with MrsG) Henderson's Wines which mov d from Henderson Row to the roseburn epicentre has not gone bust as suggested by daughter of art shop man whose business will go bust if he can't pRk illegally all day outside his shop Rather it has relocated again to morningside which although not short of vintners it is a bit far from cut price wine providers.

So if you are travelling the north country fair , where the winds hit heavy on the borderline remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love o mine

"that is quite a painful image..."

Interesting in that it appears to indicate Cllr Ross only thinks "children + young people" ought to ne "enabled" to cycle.

That rather fits with the largely unstated consensus* among many/most drivers and non-cyclists that "cycling is for kids" and not for grown ups. Grown ups drive, of course!

    :-(

    * - Until provoked for example by a 'nuisance' adult cyclist, then a surprising number of folk are willing to air this viewpoint...

Humza Yousaf has a similar photo. He says he will "keep banging the drum". Presumably an oil drum.

@piosad good summary. Which is why it is hard to see people so against making improvements.

MCC this week was relatively uneventful.

PG got himself on the committee and tried to get his mate on for Friends of Roseburn Park on as well.

A bit of confusion when the Roseburn traders tried to get on and I asked for the Roseburn Cycle Group to get on as well. That will be sorted out later...

A few different recollections from the Stakeholder Group meeting last week and what the next steps will be. The Cllrs were good at clarifying/correcting some reports.

It didn't stop the usual suspects from making the usual points, including Mr Smart asking the Community police officers to object to the cycle lane <sigh>

There was a long discussion by Murrayfield Wanderers (rugby) club which want to rent Roseburn Park to play rugby on and build a 2 storey pavilion to congregate in.

For once I wasn't the only one getting the wrath...

The best bit was at the end when someone raised the problem of double/triple parking at drop off /pickup time for Roseburn Primary (and people not being able to get their cars out). I did point out that getting more kids taking active travel would help...

It's going to be discussed in more detail at the next MCC (27th Nov)...

@HankChief Aren't most of the kids at Roseburn Primary in walking distance (with parents) of the school, or are they dropped off by car because parents then go on to work by car?

@ih the catchment area goes out to Haymarket. Most could walk/scoot it but there will always be some that are going on somewhere.

It's not the nicest to walk there with the cars parked badly and rat running cars...

    @DaisyDaisy will know more.

Quite a few roseburn primary families walk through the park at murrayfield. There is a lollipop person on the main roads and round the back too. If it was not for all the parents driving it would be fairly safe for the kids to walk.

Oh, and another good bit was when the audience was demanding the Cllrs to give their views on the Wanderers proposals.

Cllr Balfour said he wasn't allowed to say as hever might be on the committee that has to decide on it. Fair enough.

Cllr Ross said that he didn't have all the details to make his mind up. Fair enough. He went on to say that whilst the views of those in the room at the MCC were important it was also important to consider the views not in the room and look at the proposals from different angles.

I hope he has been taking the same approach on the cycle route...

Mr Smart asking the Community police officers to object to the cycle lane

Frank Ross was giving you gip the other week for appearing to not want to make any compromises. Think he's saying the same to Mr Smart and the rest of the community?

Some of the kids come from Westfield as well and their parents bring them on the bus, though presumably they come by car too.

Westfield to Roseburn - nasty, nasty cycle.

What the hell does a cycling lane have to do with Community Police Officers?

I'm told this is the latest bee in PG's bonnet that he is trying to stir up opposition against. I mean heaven forbid a park with sports pitches is used for playing sports and that a park next to the home of Scottish rugby is used for playing competitive rugby and that 2 decrepit old pavilions are replaced with something better.

Where was he when they put the Tesco in?

"Where was he when they put the Tesco in?"

Living in a flat on Rankeillor Street, IIRC. Went to a couple of parties there about 25 years ago... Different times.

Was PG reminded of the rules stickman pointed out?

"A community Councillor who becomes publicly associated with a particular position in a way that may be seen to prejudice the community council on a issue must declare their interest to the community council and not take part in any activity associated with it"

There was a large lorry at the end of Russell Road this morning. It was making a delivery. As it wasn't Tesco branded I'm assuming it was for one of the shops on the main road. Quite how it achieved this isn't clear, as we've been assured it isn't possible.

    As it wasn't Tesco branded

The supermarkets are increasing relying on subcontracted lorries to do some of their deliveries. A lot of the lorries heading into Sainsburys round from us are "white label".

@Stickman - I saw that too & assumed it was for Tesco.

@acsimpson I think Pete will be breaking that rule on a daily basis as he is very publically associated with his campaign. I suppose he could either stand down (unlikely) or get vigo cafe owner and art shop free illegal parking guy to take over?

@acsimpson: Not content with trying to stop the EW route, it appears he's gunning for the council cycling plans and budget commitment as a whole.

EDIT: at Crowriver's suggestion I've removed the link to his new survey. Needless to say, it is very biased and uses some highly selective "facts". Options to reduce city centre congestion don't even include better cycle provision.

Please don't link to PG Tips' devious attempts to pass off NIMBYism as neutral research. Some unsuspecting cyclists might inadvertently fill out their 'survey' and hence add cod legitimacy to the frothing naysaying.
