"[Lesley Hinds] wasn't going to accuse an individual of lying but "stating mistruths" which deceived business holders..."
Very interesting... someone at the council knows what they are dealing with, anyway....

"Don't misunderestimate the power of mistruths" as Dubya could have said about Trump.

    I thought that was Lincoln.

That she wasn't going to accuse an individual of lying but "stating mistruths" which deceived business holders.

That's where Edinburgh Council (and others, eg Bearsway, Holmston Road) have done badly. They need to better explain and sell the reasons why these schemes are essential, even before local consultations start.

After Humza Yousaf's speech last week, I thought that this could be an area where central government could help. If they could develop a resource of facts, figures, presentations, materials then it can save stretched local councils time/money.

Maybe such a resource exists at government level and I haven't seen it. If not, then this is a good starting point.

I'd guess Lesley Hinds & Alison Johnson like Spokes meetings because they always get such a warm welcome.

Alison J was saying she'd never met with such vitriol until she cycled through Roseburn in that group cycle.

@stickman Cycling along West Coates this evening there was a chap on an unlit bike making very slow progress. As I got closer I saw his bag was obscuring his rear light, so when I passed I politely pointed it out. I then realised it was everybody's favourite cyclist not using his beloved NCN1.

Being unlit on a segregated path would be less of an issue than on a main road of course.

I would love to see how he reacts when a video of him is shown at the next meeting and how he tries to defend his actions. With any luck they'll throw him out.

PG has now taken his promoting his survey on a couple of West Edinburgh Facebook pages.

You have to admire his tenacity...

You call it tenacity; others may call it something different....

Sounds like Lesley Hinds has had enough of his antics.

Be aware that traffic at M'field Stadium & around Haymarket will be busy before & after the match today. Plan journeys in advance. #AsOne

Roseburn Street/Russell Road will be closed off. No parking on Roseburn Terrace. TRAFFIC CHAOS.

In other news, Roseburn cafes and bars gearing up for a busy day

"Roseburn Street/Russell Road will be closed off. No parking on Roseburn Terrace."

Might be quite pleasant while the match is actually on and people not walking on R Rd.

Shops/cafes might appreciate some visitors during the lull.

I live smack by the stadium and they're putting out the flags and tuning up the bagpipes.

A great advantage of not having a car - you don't have to move it or have it picked up in giant pincers and taken away.

I don't mind big match days. You have to time your comings and goings so you aren't pushing against the tide but it's a lively, almost carnival atmosphere.

Straw bales is a good idea! (4th photo)

@chdot. Whilst the hay bales are a good idea the concept is a little behind the curve? I mean the whole concept of designing a liveable place out of a street assuming that is what everyone will want. There is no factoring in of local vocal minority causing local politicians to capitulate. Sustrans sits on the fence, the national government blames the local authority (whilst at the same time ignoring that it is the person in the locality who is objecting to change that is whipping up opposition in a non democratic manner). Sustrans remain silent on this increasingly apparent phenomena. Walthamstow village had exactly the same opposition but has toughed it out? Why is that? Could it be the local council held firm? The national government had no interest and the progress could be made? Meanwhile in Scotland we have tiny minds where a segregated path in Ayr is put in by a consortium of local authorities and then one of the local authorities in the consortium who agreed the path in the first place pulls out amidst a tiny bit of local pressure in a nasty local poliitican style stitch up and instead of linking the path to the longer route pays to rip it out. Because the same local authority does not enforce that there should be no parking outside the cemetery but that people should use the cemetery car park and students should not be driving to college over the river and using the on street parking. Sorry to go local to Ayr with this example but both cases are SNP local politicians looking to dismantle a cycling scheme for political gain. Sustrans has no answer to people not behaving rationally ( well I am also assuming a politician is supposedly representing the people not using a vocal local minority to push their own agenda!)

All true, but I was meaning the actual use of actual straw bales - instead of sometimes suggested planters.

"I mean the whole concept of designing a liveable place out of a street assuming that is what everyone will want."

    Well not really.

Doubt if there will be anywhere with no objectors.

The point of a Sustrans style even (which is probably too late for Roseburn - and might not have been suitable in any case) is to engage people and explore possibilities.

Stray bales would be good for trying options - e.g. buildouts and kerblines.

Straw bales as a tmporary feature to indicate build out indeed a good idea. Cost about three quid each, easily manouvered, hard to dislodge with a bumper, can be Eaten by horses later. All good. I note from grand designs you can build a house with them too but on the other hand there were three little pigs.....

Yeah but. The lights stay at red for much longer don't they? There are six seconds for pedestrians to start crossing the road, not for them to complete the action.

Thanks to a van parked outside Roseburn Cafe, city bound queues back past the zoo. Parking needs banned on that side.

Thanks to too many motor cars driving straight past the Roseburn Cafe without stopping to buy anything, city bound queues back past the zoo. Cars need banned from entering the city centre.

Apparently 770 have filled in the "survey" and unsurprisingly the results say cycle lanes won't work.

Also A group of us are visiting Roseburn SNP Cllr Frank Ross on the 21st Nov to lobby him to get the coning-off trial before the “Future Transport Working Group” makes its decision.

A coning off (short term) trial is a fallacy as adaptation in traffic patterns only happens after a couple of weeks. So yes, if you cone off for two days, it will 'prove' the scheme doesn't work.

This is why we no longer have the daily 'traffic chaos' on Leith Street, or at least not any more than we had before it was reduced to 1 lane just under a year ago.

There already is a trial of what happens when less people drive in rush hour.

    It's called the school holidays...
